So I have been given permission to start casting my bullets. I have selected most of the stuff but and it is patiently waiting at Midway's Checkout but I wanted to know if in casting 9mm and 38spcl should I use gas checks.

Assorted input will be very welcome.

I can't speak from personal experience as far as casting, but a friend of mine does a lot of casting and reloading for cowboy action and sillouette shooting. He told me he only uses gas checks on his hot-long distance rifle sihlouette loads, but not on anything else. I have used his regular cast bullets in my 38spl handgun loads with no problem. I also bought some cast swc 38spl bullets from a guy who sells them at the gun shows locally. He sells 275 for $7.00. I have fire well over 200 of those with no problem other than minor leading, which is to be expected. No problems though.

That's all I know about it.

I only use them for HOT!!!! ,357,.41,and.44Mag ammo. Kinda figured that they help keep leading down at 1500fps or better.

Go ahead and buy the molds that are made for gas checks. The bullets will work just fine with or without the GCs and you may decide to add them later.
