TX: "constitutional carry" legislation is dead

    Whats up Texas?

AUSTIN -- Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen said Friday that "constitutional carry" legislation is dead after a gun rights activist went to his Lake Jackson home as part of a push for the controversial gun bill.

Chris McNutt is the executive director of Texas Gun Rights and a supporter of Bedford Republican Rep. Jonathan Stickland's bill that would allow Texans to carry firearms without the need for a license.

After posting rants on Facebook about the bill's lack of movement, he went to Bonnen's home about 50 miles south of Houston last Wednesday while Bonnen was in Austin and his wife and teenage sons were home. McNutt also visited the homes of Reps. Dustin Burrows of Lubbock and Four Price of Amarillo.

We don't need to take up the tactics of the SJW/democratic socialist crowd of activists..... Being too passionate is not helpful.

Couldn't read the whole article due to too many ad's locking up my blocker

You can be dead right on principle and dead wrong on tactics.

McNutt didn’t help ANY gun owner in the U.S. Write or call your legislators (not usually effective), demonstrate peacefully, contribute to gun rights organizations, but DON’T GO TO THEIR HOUSE!!!

With "friends" like this, who needs enemies? This was truly a moronic tactic that backfired horribly.

Yup, this is exactly right. Bonnen is a liberal Democrat who disguised himself as a Republican in order to get elected. Everyone who is privvy to the Legislature has been saying this would happen for several months now. I think the lack of any arrest is probably telling here. Had there been ANY kind of physical threat (anything at all) the DPS would have thrown the guy under the jail.

This is a politician blowing smoke and the reactions here demonstrate how weaselly and clever he is. If he had just flat out said he didn't want Constitutional carry, he would probably not have lasted a week as Speaker. So, how better to slip your neck out of the noose, than to blame doing what you always planned to do on someone else? Read the article carefully and pay attention to who he placed in charge of the committee that would advance or stop the bill:

Four months into the session, the constitutional carry bill remains pending in the House Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee. Bonnen appointed Democrat Poncho Nevárez of Eagle Pass to run the committee, which usually handles gun legislation, and Nevárez said Friday he no longer plans on having a hearing on the bill.
That was done LONG BEFORE the incident in question.

Does that sound like he might be in favor of keeping his campaign promises? Watch what the voters in his district do to Bonnen next election cycle.

BTW None of this says it was a wise thing to do going to his home. Maybe it was stupid - but trust me, a politician posing as someone he is not is not stupid, it is evil. IMHO.

*yawn* how many houses do you think Bonnen visited while campaigning for office? This bill was already dead. They just didn’t have a story to attach to it yet.
We get the government we deserve.
