Someone threw a cell phone at Trump at the NRA convention

I don't want this to be a political thread, BTW, and comment on Trump. But the facts are as Trump was coming onstage to give his speech at the NRA convention, someone allegedly threw a cell phone at the president, although he missed him by a wide margin. Then of course, the guy was arrested by the Secret Service. I can't find any further details online.

I don't know what to make of this. My thoughts are:
    • If this was an NRA member, I don't see how he helped the cause.
    • If he was a left wing plant, they have sunk to a new low, which I didn't think was possible.
    • This guy can't throw worth a darn.
    • Don't you think throwing a cell phone is kind of stupid way to make a statement? It is not very aerodynamic, it is expensive and it is also a pretty traceable projectile. Authorities would always be able to track it back to its owner.
    • If the guy was a good throw and had something more damaging to throw, he could have possibly done some real damage.

That was a pretty weak throw. The guy that threw his shoe at Pres. Bush in Iraq years ago did a lot better.

Any assault or attempted assault on the president is a federal felony punishable by up to 10 year. That is true even if you don't do any damage. The big irony is that guy probably will lose his gun rights for life.

I literally fell asleep about ten minutes into his speech.

I didn't bother. I'm not happy with how he or the NRA have handled the bump stock non-issue. Not because I have one, had one or wanted one, but because of the precipitous precedent that it set for the continuing erosion of our rights.

I agree, but I think the more substantive issue is the position the NRA, Trump and the RINOs in the Senate have taken on Red Flag laws. If Rubio's S.7 bill passes the Senate, it will definitely pass the House and I think Trump might sign it.

Meanwhile, the NRA is sitting the fence. They say to members they oppose S.7 because it doesn't have all their caveats in it, but they haven't really spoken out against it and they are still on record saying they support the basic Red Flag concept.

The individual was identified as William Rose, law enforcement sources said. The sources added that Rose was intoxicated at the event.
Probably so drunk he didn't realize what he was doing.

I was guessing a disgruntled bump stock owner. OR it was Ollie North.

Didnít watch it. As far as the bullet points in the OP are concerned:

1- who says he was trying to help a cause? Some people like the POTUS some donít. Thatís how it has always been and always will be.

2- during the 2016 campaign season, there were plenty of left wing plats at his rallyís, to include TIm Kaines son who was arrested for inciting violence at one.

3- I wouldnít expect someone who would think itís a good idea to throw a phone at any President to be good at much of anything.

4- I believe someone threw a shoe at Bush. Other Presidents have been shot/shot at. Politicians never have been and never will be untouchable.
We get the government we deserve.

It sounds like Ollie is none too fond of Wayne:

The irony in that story is that both are corrupt and need to go. Rabid dogs turning on one another. The distraction of the drunk guy just adds a bit of humor to the situation.
