Just listened to DJT. He is calling for better detection of prospective shooters on social media, death penalty for hate crimes, and full out effort of federal law enforcement to prevent mass shootings. I stopped paying attention when he mentioned working with Barr and reminded us that he got bump stocks banned. Sounded good to the public I am sure. For it was a non event, but he did condemn racism, hate, and extremism. I am going to the range now to practice my deterrent technique.

Plus anyone who says anything about uncontrolled immigration, unless it’s that it’s an absolute and unqualified good. The progressive narrative, including its take on guns, has reached the point of absurdity, and the people are seeing it.

There are people who should not have access to firearms. I think many here would agree. The question is how to restrict their access.

The problem I have with the ERPOs that have been enacted is they are ripe for abuse. The process should to be two sided, allowing for defense against the claim prior to any attempt at forced confiscation. We've seen how that can turn out.

Extremely stiff, unavoidable penalties for false/frivolous claims. "I'm sorry" won't cut it.

I still prefer Trump to Hillary, but he’s still a NYC liberal at heart

Watched the speech on HLN, didn’t care for the call for more red flag laws but in HLNs (CNN subsidiary) “analysis” there was the expected call “we need more gun laws, we need more gun laws, we need more gun laws”.

Trump is being reactive, not proactive on these new gun initiatives. Politically, no matter who was occupied the office of the POTUS, he can't do nothing. Two events within 12 hours is really bad optics! Having a racist as the culprit only made things much worse. The media is just fanning the flames in the current election cycle. And a compromised NRA with its internal turmoil is useless.

The main issue with ERPOs is the lack of due process and the lack of protections from abuse. Personally, if I have to live with ERPOs, I want the person that made an unfounded claim held criminally liable like filing a false police report and be civilly liable for the gun owners legal expenses and other financial damages.

    Totally agree One gun.
I can live with it if it has sufficient protections for abuse and due process, and devastating consequences for false accusations.
But I do not believe will will get any real protections and the slope will just get more slippery

I don't mind President Trump taking action to stop shootings, as a matter of fact I think its a good thing for him to take action to stop such stuff as long as such action does not infringe on my gun rights. I had nothing to do with the El Paso or the Dayton shooting or for that matter any mass shooting so I should not be punished for such stuff. I should not have my gun rights restricted because of what somebody else did with a gun.

As for action to stop such stuff, perhaps we should do a better job at dealing with sick people in our world. Also, encouraging more good level headed people to get good firearms training and to carry is another good tactic. An armed good person could've stopped the shooters.
