I find myself repeatedly explaining what "well regulated" meant in the verbiage of the day.

True. And, anti-gunners always focus on the "militia" equating it with the military, but fail to recognize the words "the right of the people to keep and bear arms...."

The Oxford English dictionary has the definitions for that time period, not Websters.

I don't waste my breath trying to explain anything to the antis - they've already shown their colors.
Be careful of people who brag about who they are - a lion will never have to tell you who he's a lion.

It depends on the anti, and your method.
    I still at least try.

Some of the politicians do, you're right. But I think the average leftist Joe on the street really doesn't know; for them, it's all about their "right" to feel safe, and about their "feelings."

Not that it matters in this day but, my take on "well regulated" means bearing (owning) current, effecient arms as in AR15 type and being profecient in their use. Being that is what the military uses so that is what the common citizen should be able to have to be "well regulated".

The second amendment is very efficient in its use of words.
    Short and to the point.
    No long explanation.
I find it difficult to believe it can be “interpreted “ in more than one way.

Yes, but they keep on repeating this stuff knowing it’s false hoping that gun owners will eventually cave in to their propaganda. It works. But now that I think about it, we do have a congressman who thought Guam would tip over...

I had to laugh brother. I find it difficult to believe they can "interpret"....You shall not commit adultery more than one way.

Our problem is that many people have no grasp of the reality that words actually have intrinsic meaning. I offer proof: Why would anyone EAT something labeled SOAP POD?

My understanding is that "well regulated" means "well trained and disciplined." The "shall not be infringed" part is the part dealing with the type of weapons that may be carried or any restriction thereof.

Aye, the good old days. If you had the money you could outfit your own privateer.
    I would have loved that.
My fantasy is to outfit an old PTboat update the weaponry and cruise the gulf
