    More Red Flag Hijinks

Found this story on LE Today. Looks like somebody has been reading DC about how to use Red Flag laws.

A word from one who knows (me) - a LOT of law enforcement officers get in really bad marital spats because of the strain placed on the relationship by the job. Sometimes things turn really ugly and unfortunately I have sat in on a few sessions with supervisors. I have been honored to help a number of officers and their wives patch things up. It is a tough thing most times, but I was always grateful when the One I served turned things around for them. Red Flag laws are not the answer, but I hope people will realize how unreasonable and unconstitutional these laws are.

In divorce the new "he molested our child" will be "he has a gun and threatened me".

"With little to no investigation or reason, they can strip you of your license and your firearms, and your only recourse is to engage in a lengthy and expensive appeals process. Thankfully Mr. Nichols is willing to make that engagement, but how many others wonít or canít afford to do the same?"

Another reason why red flag laws will be abused. It seems you can't express concern over safety without being accused of a threat. Gotta watch what you say. Bye bye 1A.

Law enforcement is a unique profession. By genetics and training a LEO is an Alfa personality. He/she is an expert at subduing others. Then comes along a wife, who by genetics must control her husband in order to survive. She can no more change her behavior than you can wash the stripes off a zebra, that's who she is, The clashes are inevitable and the outcome is divorce,

I agree, but it is far more than alpha personalities.

A spouse married to a LEO watches that loved one leave for work knowing full well they may never see them again. LEO's deal with, by a huge majority, the dregs of society - the worst of the worst - every day. Eventually the only people they can trust are other LEOs. They sometimes have to fight for their very survival. Sometimes they have to take a life. They see women butchered, children burned, tortured, beaten, and killed, the unbelievable savagery people visit upon one another day in and day out.

Most want to serve their communities and make them safe and better places to live. When they experience the hate directed toward them, the few times they are thanked become precious. I went into a Walmart one morning in uniform and was spit upon and cursed by the woman at the check out aisle. I stood between a murderer holding a bloody butcher knife and his terrified children. I held hands and prayed with victims on the doorstep of eternity. I helped carry dead children from a burned out apartment building. I married them, and buried a few. That is a small example of what they face. Is it any wonder their terror, rage, and hurt sometimes gets expressed in bad ways at home or on the job?

Psychologically, they finally retreat inside a shell to prevent the loss of the last vestiges of their humanity.

For reasons known only to our Creator, some are not as terribly affected by what they live with during their careers. For that I am thankful. Others face a level of PTSD that, for the most part, is not even exceeded by soldiers in combat, and is generally ignored by the departments who send them out every day. My heart will always belong to my sisters and brothers in blue.

Well said, OldChap. I look at LEO wives much the same as military wives, the difference being military members deploy on occasions, whereas LEO deploy daily. It's tough being married in the service, and divorces are not uncommon. I can imagine it is just as tough, or tougher, in the LEO arena.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Red Flag Laws are made to confiscate guns and to be abused.

If any gun owner thinks it's about "mental health" then they have been duped. Hoodwinked. Scammed. Lied too.
The examples of abuse are becoming more common every single day.

If you think it's OK to be guilty of something until you are proven guilty in a court of law by a jury of your peers then you need to go back to Civics class.

The issue of Gun Confiscation is not just with Red Flag Laws. Here in Kansas a DUI REQUIRES removal of all firearms from the home BEFORE a trial or conviction. I was shocked when a co-worker received a DUI and he showed me the order.
So Red Flag Laws are just another step on the path.

One thing I wonder about a situation like this: He has to surrender his own guns, but can a court keep him from carrying a department issued gun? On one hand, a red flag law might say that's what should happen, but he is an elected official and that would be depriving him of a tool of his trade. I don't know the answer.

I mean, I can't imagine a soldier being red flagged, but still have a duty to engage in arms training, or even being deployed to a war zone. What if an FFL got red flagged? There are probably other scenarios where a red flag would prevent someone from earning a living.

Scenarios don't matter. What matters is Red Flag laws allow disarming the population through gun confiscation. That is their purpose plain and simple.

Just a matter of time I think.

I go to the Arkansas Capitol occasionally to engage the Moms Demand Action group formed by Bloomberg and financed by him and Soros.

There is no lost love there. Some of them hate my guts but rest assured the feeling is mutual as they are enemies of freedom that I will not tolerate.

What is there to stop them from Red Flagging me just because of my political views?

    Absolutely nothing, that's what.

Which is why I fight Red Flag Laws here in Arkansas every chance I get. I fear it will never go away. It might not pass the next year or the year after, but it will pass at some point in time, that you can just about bank on. The people pushing it are avowed Socialists.
