I have what appears to be an all original Remington 1903 as indicated by the receiver SN, barrel dated 12-42 and original stock markings without rebuild or import marks. I don't think it was ever issued. It is a beautiful rifle.

The only issue I can find is the rear ladder sight. The slide will tighten in the horizontal position, but will loosen and fall if touched. The only way I can get it to stay put is to tighten it in the position shown. It only effects the battle sight, but I'd like it to work properly.

Any advice on how to correct this before I take the slide apart?

I feel like it is missing a part, which is like a long screw that goes the length of the sight. I may be wrong though.

perhaps the set screw is too short? it looks like it is bottoming out on the slide and may not long enough to seat against the sight, given the age it could be that the screw isn't long enough anymore, how do the threads look?
