Finally bought a WWII 1943 Arisaka Type 99 7.7mm rifle to add to my collection of WWII and prior military service rifles. It’s a complete (with the exception of the dust cover), numbers matching, rifle with an intact mum. I did buy a reproduction dust cover from Liberty Tree Collectors.

Very nice, congrats. I’ve just started my journey into old milsurp rifles and the Arisaka is definitely on my short list.

Nice! Is it a shooter? How about ammo prices/availability?
Not cheap, but most don’t shoot a lot of rounds out of these older collectibles anyway. I just ordered 20 rounds for my Steyr M95, with taxes and shipping it came to about $4.00 per round. But that’s probably a years worth of ammunition for that rifle.

Excellent rifle!

I would suspect the fit and finish started to drop-off pretty fast after this one was produced.

Look up “Last Ditch” Arisaka’s. Towards the end of the war, Japan started cutting corners on production to try and get equipment to its troops. So production year can really matter on some of these.

The web site referenced above has some ammo for it at $2.45/rd. A bit expensive?

Expensive is relative!

Ammunition for my .458 Winchester Magnum is approximately $12.00 per round

Compared to that, 7.7 Arisaka ammo is relatively cheap 😎
