Real Title: In a Stunning Turn – ‘Model’ Anti-Gun Bill Stalls & Crashes in New Jersey Assembly Committee

My comments: I think the NJ Assembly might just be worried about being elected again........ especially after Sandy and the exposure that the NJ or Federal Govt will not be there to protect you or your property. Sandy might have created a bigger impact on the docile minds of NJ citizens than we think. Besides, NJ just recorded a record number of gun background checks (to buy them) in history! We can vote these anti-Constitution creeps out, and they know it!

Trenton, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- In a dramatic upset in the timing of the “centerpiece” of the Democrats’ gun bill package, the New Jersey Assembly Law & Public Safety Committee today failed to muster enough votes to pass S2723/A4182 out of committee.

In a stunning turn of events, it became apparent during a roll call vote that there were not a sufficient number of Democratic votes for the bill. Rather than complete the roll call as required by legislative rules, chaos and confusion ensued as the committee chairman and staffers halted the proceedings mid-roll- call and huddled in an adjacent room while they figured out what to do. Republican members of the committee protested the unprecedented procedure and argued with the chairman.

Rather than completing the embarrassing vote, the chairman made a face-saving announcement that the bill was being “held” for further amendment at a future meeting.

Wow, in NJ no less! Cool! I've heard of bills being pulled from consideration when they know they don't have the votes to pass them, so they can be taken up at a future date (happens all the time) but I've never heard of a vote being halted in mid process. Some of them must have had a change of heart. I can't believe they wouldn't have known whether they had enough votes otherwise. I'm not sure why they were allowed to get away with that. In any event, I'm glad the bill didn't pass, whatever the reason.

I don't know if I'd go that far. This is NJ we're talking about after all. But, I hope you're right. I suppose it's never too late for them to see the error of their ways, even if it's only for political reasons.
Hey, it took us nearly 150 years here in Ohio to get a shall issue concealed carry policy we can live with, and we did it in spite of Bob Taft.

Yeah, but the vast majority of citizens fail to realize it. If only ...

Blatant disregard for the People. They have a responsibility. They're defying it when they go after the People directly, by subverting the process of our governance (as is the case here).

Time for citizens to wake up and smell the cesspool. It's right in their faces (particularly in NJ, some might say). It's OUR state, our governance, our means of providing for our collective needs. It is NOT a gravy train suitable only for liars, cheaters and thieves ... those who would steal our heritage, our liberties and our children's futures. It's OURS, and it's high time we remember that. Their heads are also ours, if they defy us, in this regard. And it's high time we remember that, as well.

They wanted to stop the vote, because if it were defeated.... they can't bring it back for a vote again.

They are saying they want "amendments" only to try to save it and campaign to get more votes. There is NO way that should have been allowed, it's against legislative procedures.

:yup:

It's deliberate subversion and malfeasance. While not directly a breach of their oaths, procedurally, the mere fact it happened to occur on an anti-2A vote is also telling. They don't give a damn about the People of the state of NJ; they only want to screw them, control them, erase their liberties. Our hirelings are doing that, and they're thumbing us each time they use such tactics and deal with such (anti-liberty, unconstitutionally-infringing) bills/votes.

The stalled Sweeney bill throws out existing FID cards and replaces them with either a privacy-invading driver license endorsement or other form of ID; suspends Second Amendment rights without proof of firearms training; imposes a 7-day waiting period for handgun purchases; ends all private sales; and effectively creates a registry of ammunition purchases and long gun sales. Democrats have touted the bill as a national model.
That's an anti-bill if there ever was one.

And they call that a "model" bill, eh? A model for unconstitutional control, yeah.

When I was growing up, a good model was a few strips of balsa wood and a dab of Elmer's. Better yet, one you made yourself. Ah, me. What a world we're allowing to cave in around our ears.

There has been a nationwide email and phone call effort to stop this nonsense in NJ. Maybe it had some effect. Then again the anti-freedom libs might just be regrouping for a better time or to slip it in with another bill when no one is looking. We all know how sneaky they can be.

I wonder what the Dems would have done if the Reps had tried a similar manouver on a conservative bill? You know the media would be screaming about it too. I hate this double-standard garbage. Pray that sanity is spreading like a virus and this is just the begining.

Good for the people of joisy, they still need a major government overhaul, I hope this stunt doesn't distract them from that goal.
