Detroit Gun Rights Advocates Stage Successful Protest At “Guns For Groceries” Event Conducted By Wayne County (MI) Executive And The Local Sheriff Department.
May 23, 2013

Local Detroit gun rights activists, however, know the truth about these “guns for goods” program ran by local governments all across our country:

•They have never been proven to have any positive effect on violent crime rates.
•They encourage firearm thefts because no questions will be asked.
•They potentially lead to the destruction of evidence used in crimes.
•They lead to the destruction of personal property of the rightful owners.
•They consume public resources that could be used to fight crime.
•They exploit the poor by offering $50 for potentially valuable hardware.
•They mislead the public by creating only a “feel good” fluff story in the media.

From the article said:
All month long commercials were being ran over the airwaves seeking to convince Detroit residents that the cause of the violence in their town was caused by guns owned by them. Thus, if they wanted to reduce the amount of violent crime in Detroit, the “obvious” solution floated by the local county government was for everybody to sell their firearms for a $50 gift card to buy groceries at Meijer’s.
Picture a Detroit felon, one who has a few weapons at home, who decides to sell his trashiest, unreliable one to "them" for $50. They should explain how this felon is transformed from being violent to being safe, with more weapons at home and a crisp $50 in his pocket.

Bueller ... Bueller ...? :dunno:

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can tell you that I have been a gun owner for over thirty years. I have never been guilty of anything beyond a typical traffic violation. Blaming me or my guns for the violence in our country is a red herring at best, and a cowardly act at worst. When will the "powers that be" actually address the problem of violence (and the actual causes of that violence) in a real, honest way, rather than coming up with excuses and blaming law abiding citizens and inanimate objects??? These gun buy-back programs do absolutely nothing, other than give people the opportunity to cull the herd of an inoperative firearm and get a little cash in the process, and give criminals the opportunity to get rid of evidence that could tie them to a crime. These criminals either already have other firearms at their disposal in order to continue their career, or they know where they can get another one easily enough.

I am honestly awaiting an answer. Of course, I don't expect to hear one. As has been mentioned in a post a while back, we continue to hear nothing but crickets chirping when it comes to addressing the real issues.

A criminal with a gun can get a lot more than the $50 he will get by selling the gun.

We are the powers. We, the citizens. When will we do it? When we've had enough of hiring liberty-hating reelection machines who do nothing other than work for expediency and whatever will play best to get themselves reelected. The sort who did it as a service died long ago. There are such good folk. We're just not hiring them, instead allowing these gravy-trainers to foul the nest.

Government has its hooks in the firearms market as deep as in the healthcare market. Sheep actually equate the two as for the public welfare. The nanny state mentality is entrenched and is deep in healthcare but getting pushed back in gun control.
The government buy-backs are as successful as they are (pitiful against the backdrop of a free market picture that we maintain is the best) because the government shuts down other avenues of gun transfer as much as the people will let them.
Really, it's the people who take enough responsibility for their own individual self-governance versus those whose mentality is that we need government control. We need to keep pushing on states' rights to break the stranglehold.
Eventually, sooner or later, freedom will win. But it won't happen without education and demonstration of the benefits of personal responsibility. We need to be active, make noise, support the gun industry and growing culture.

According to the news releases in my area Detroit is close to being a ghost town, they have shown footage of block after block in residential neighborhoods that are almost completely abandoned and the same in the industrial areas. They also stated that about 225,000 auto manufacturing jobs were lost but added to the loss of jobs in the auto manufacturing support industries the total is 900,000 plus jobs. Sorry, I got off subject.....

How many of you are aware of the growing influence of Middle Eastern descendants, including their predominant religion, in the area from Detroit to Toledo?

There may or may not be any correlation between that and the frightening crime rate around Detroit, but it bears noting. I'm honestly concerned that the efforts to tank the United States from the inside out are efforts being fought on so many different fronts that even the diligent ones such as ourselves are being blindsided and overwhelmed. I don't believe for a second that going to church with a leftist pastor that spouts violence as a solution is the action of a Christian man. Bowing before the King of a country that is at the heart of, the literal Mecca of, a religion that preaches violence against infidels is a particularly chilling thought.

I want my country back.
