For more than a year, New York state has maintained a tip line allowing people to report illegal gun owners and collect a $500 reward.
CBS-6 news reported the existence of the tip line on Wednesday. It was previously a “well-kept secret” that received little promotion from state officials or fanfare in the media, according to the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.
A February 2012 press release from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s office first publicly announced the tip line, saying it was designed to “encourage citizens to report illegal firearm possession.”

If we can find someone willing to martyr themselves, we get everybody on the DC to make tips about him.

It presumes untrained folks know lawful versus unlawful firearms ownership, in a community where firearms ownership is (at least currently still) lawful (more or less). Can't imagine that it provides more-accurate information than the non-emergency police number that folks use today. And such a snitch-for-dollars program helps deplete the coffers of the public treasury in the process. Dumb, IMO.

Gee, it sounds like a good idea. Just a little misapplied. Paying people to report murderers, rapist, robbers, child molesters, burglars, or home invaders might improve public safety. But then it is New York we're talking about. Even Bloomberg doesn't want to waste his money on that kind of nonsense!

I read that article and in there it had ......."But an agency spokeswoman told Fox News Radio the agency is “required to follow up on every single allegation that comes into the central registry......." So why don't all of us here on DC call or email in giving them so called *tips* if you know what I mean ???? :tongue: God Bless :smile:

If you phone it in do not use your cell phone. Use a Pay Phone if you can find one or use a phone at an unfriendly no guns allowed business. In other words turn the tables on the Snitch for $$ scheme. Tie up their phone lines. Send them on wild goose chases. Fight fire with napalm. Beat them at their own game.
I believe they have a program in place to do the same thing if you catch someone with a large soda. :danceban:
