Because Massachusetts state law bars handgun ownership for those younger than 21, Tamerlan Tsarnaev was the only brother who could have obtained a license from the town of Cambridge, Mass., where he lived. But he didn't take that step, Dan Riviello, spokesman for the Cambridge Police Department, told Reuters.

"There is no record of him having a license to carry," Riviello said, according to the news service.
There is the exact reason even more restrictions are meaningless and useless.

"The news that the suspects were not authorized to own firearms will likely add fuel to calls for tougher gun laws.."

Well they you have it folks...... If the proposed nonsense so called gun control was in effect there would have been no bombing.....

Another point.............. When did this bombing incident become about guns........

During the shootings that took place afterwards: MIT officer shot to death; likely the carjacking; the gunfight at the first arrest attempt; and the gunfight at the final arrest attempt.

What didn't stop the T-bros.:
  • Prohibition against murder, mass-murder and conspiracy to commit murder
  • Prohibition against constructing a bomb with intent to harm others
  • Prohibition against failing to register firearms and apply for CHL
  • Prohibition against resisting lawful arrest
  • Prohibition against trespassing on the property of others

But, apparently, what would have stopped them is:
  • Criminalizing all citizens who own or acquire 11+ round magazines in guns
  • Criminalizing all citizens who own certain low-powered rifles because of anti-burn, anti-bobble, user-fit features
  • Undermining the Constitution by sidestepping due-process when claiming someone's "mental" or "unfit" to own arms
  • Taxing, burdening and infringing all citizens in the hopes the restrictions will trickle down to criminals

Perhaps we should ban nails, cooking pots, cartridge powders, ballistic nylon cloth and thread, backpacks and daypacks, automobiles (used to run down police), shoes (to run away with), cell phones and pagers (to communicate with your cell members when planning your next op).

Makes me wistful for the days when Readin', Writin' and 'Rithmetic was dispensed along with a healthy dose of honor, integrity and personal responsibility. :icon_neutral:

wouldnt doubt it. i dont know why some people feel that by making stupid laws it will control criminals who dont listen to the laws... i bet that the guns wernt legally aquired either, but somehow if we make stricter laws they will abide by them

As I've said a thousand times to antis, CRIMINALS DON'T BUY GUNS IN A GUN STORE, THEY BUY THEM OUT OF THE TRUNK OF A CAR IN A VACANT LOT!!! To further that, I always quote Cam Edwards, "If gun control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome!" This sometimes shuts them up, but not usually. You can't try to rationalize the thoughts of stupid people, because you're just wasting time that's best spent beating down the doors of our politicians!

Way back in the 80's I was in Cali, Colombia. Vendors spread blankets on the sidewalk and put guns for sale on them like vendors in other cities might sell umbrellas and watches. In fact i saw a few grenades being sold. And guess what, there was no required paper work, except the exchange of money for goods purchased.

A lot of the Media Muppets are metioning Newtown every chance they get and the defeated Background Check Bill when they talk about the Marathon Murders.
You know they are salivating waiting to find out how these two terrorist got the weapons they used. Which were handguns [ thats whats been reported]
I can't remeber which LEO said it but he said over 250 rounds were fired, probably from the LEO side.

They had illegally possessed firearms? Well, that explains the whole bombing thing, doesn't it.

i cannot confirm this but I don't think that the elder T-bro had gotten his terrorist permit from Chechnya last year. He was illegally performing terrorist acts. This has got to stop.

While that's certainly a chuckle.... Let's look at this with "common sense"...

Bullies
Robbers
Thugs
Thieves
Rapists
Murderers
Terrorists

....Must register themselves before committing any heinous acts.

Simple, easy, solves the problem... You gun nuts can have your guns... because you see, all the criminals are going to register their intent before the act.

Problem solved!

Senators, have your staff write this one up... this'll work! Even better than the swill you wanted us to swallow.

<Edit to add>

Even better, and more convenient for those registered, renewal of the registration occurs automatically when they are caught and incarcerated. Easy peasy, no waiting in long lines to renew your permit to be a criminal... It's all "automatic."

Arrest, incarceration is good for a life membership card.

The only thing that the anti gun folks want are no guns of any type just like Hitler, Stalin and other dictators. This is why our forefathers developed the Second Amendment to protect the people from the government.
