armed with a .380, would you be more afraid of jacketed hollow point defense ammo? Or round nose full metal jacketed ammo? And why?

Either. Why? It's gonna hurt.
Which one is going to be more lethal? I've heard some people say hollow points out of a .380 don't get the penetration necessary. And fmj's will do a better job of breaking down an attacker. I'm just wondering what the consensus is around here.

The 95 Gr flat nose rounds for 380 ,why simple 380 is not a power house it takes power to push a hollow point in deep. The 95 gr is just about the limit for the small round in a short barrel weapon and it will punch in. Here is a 380 95 flat nose insulated steel door 21 feet and it went though a 7/16 ply wood behind that. It will do the job if you do yours and hit the target.
This test was done after someone after a few on this forum tried to tell me a 380 would not penetrate a human skull

Both... why? I have no need for extra hole I wasnt born with, regardless of bullet type. Both will kill, both will hurt. Npot really seeing the point of this question, no offense intended.

Your original question was if I was a BG which would I be more afraid of. As far as lethal you have to factor in other tangibles; such as how good of a marksman you are and where your shot hits me. At that point and time, I could care less what your ammo is and it's penetration capability or even your shot placement capabilities. Bottom line either is going to cause much physical pain and I would like to ovoid that at all costs. Live to rob and plunder another day is my battle cry. There is a lot of test data available on the performance of .380 ammo that you may find helpful. See Smitty901 post.

Meh, I work out so either round will just bounce off me.

Honestly, I think either would be acceptable. I understand both sides of the discussion but I think either would do the job. I load 95 gr flat nose but thinking about switching back to some JHP.

More lethal is like being sorta pregnant.

Most efficient at incapacitation might be more to the point.

FMJ for me. Thankfully there are other choices here in addition to the 380 ACP.

If someone's pointing a gun at you, the furthest thing from your mind at that moment is wondering what kind of ammo is in it and how scared you should be.

How the deuce would I (the bad guy) know?

Is the "good guy" going to announce "Man, you don't want me to shoot--I've got DeathShok TerrierWolf Platinum Talon Fang-Faces loaded!!!"

I'm sorry, but I simply find the entire premise ludicrous.

You guys are making this more complicated than I intended. I was just looking for opinions on which bullet type would stop a bad guy more effectively.

i personally wouldnt want to be shot by either. im almost positive that the BG wont care whichever and that they probably also dont want to be shot. but i like hollow points since they expand and are designed to cause more damage and transfer more velocity. if it doesnt kill the BG it better cause a lot of pain and damage to him.

I stager my mags with both. Loaded as follows. Two ranger T's and then a FMJ, then another two ranger T's followed by another FMJ. It's two to the chest and one to the head if I'm forced to draw and fire.

That is an entirely different question...I respectfully submit that you asked the wrong question initially.

And the answer is...well, it's complicated. Personally, I'd say FMJ, since it is more likely to penetrate deeply enough in an oblique angle shot or through an arm--or both.

Others would say that JHP would be better, even though it will penetrate shallower (if it opens up), because you'll get a wider wound channel.

You pays your money and makes your choices.
