Since 850 +- fps is the speed of 230 gr. fmj factory bullets in 45 acp, is it ok to load Plated 230 gr. bullets to that level? Most load data that I have seen, generally lists loads reaching 850 fps with 230 gr. FMJ bullets as maximum loads. I have also heard that as long as you don't exceed 1000 fps with plated or lead bullets you are ok.

Anyone out there duplicating factory 230gr. fmj loads using plated bullets? I use 6.2 gr.WSF with FMJ bullets, and was wondering if I can use the same load with plated bullets.

Not with plated, but 850 fps is no problem with cast lead, which is what I load to about that velocity. It should be no problem at all with plated. I'm using Titegroup, I don't have the exact powder charge in front of me.

Take a look at your loading manuals. Try to pick out a load that gives you the velocity you want with a PRESSURE you can live with.

Load up several batches. Play with bullet and powder weights. When you find a load that FEELS like and lands on target LIKE the factory load you will be carrying you have a good round to use at the range.
