642 Holsters

I currently carry my 642 in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster, and will probably be picking up a Mika Pocket Holster for variety, but what about other holsters for the 642? I'd like a nice discreet IWB, but don't want to break the bank for it, would love it to be easy on/easy off, do not want a strap/thumb snap, and want it to be comfortable, secure and durable.

At least I'm not picky, right?

So what's out there, have you used it, and why did you like it?

Thanks :beerchug:

I carry my 637 in a Fobus OWB holster. The holster is light weight and you never know you have the thing on. Moreover, for 18 to bucks you will not break the bank and will have a good holster. This is paddle style. Most people ride Fobus, but I think this is all hype my Fobus holster serves me well for the 637 because the pistol is light.
Holster for 642

Have you tried checking out Bell Charter Oak? Ihave bought several holsters from them and all have been excelent. Go to www.BellCharterOakHolsters.com

I hadn't, but I have now.
Their "Chicago Rocker" with a forward cant just might do it.
Thanks for the tip! :beerchug:

BlueLion: I've thought about the Fobus, but have yet to find one for a Lefty.
Garg, I don't know if you'd consider an OWB, but wife got one, since there's not much length to conceal with the 642. Check out the Milt Sparks PMK at http://www.miltsparks.com/
While it's not the most attractive looking holster I've seen, the Tucker Cover-Up is what my 642 rides in most. The belt clip, which is made by Comp-Tac, allows for height and cant adjustment. It's also "tuckable". The picture on the website shows the clip sitting on the cylinder, but I have mine rotated back toward the trigger guard.

I got ya...man...good luck.
I carry a variety of weapons both on and off duty. For off duty, I most usually carry a S&W 649, 36 &/or Ruger SP101 snub. Of the many holsters that I have, I like my Don Hume H715 S.O.O.T (IWB) and my DeSantis speed scabbard the most. Both companies offer high quality leather (and nylon) and a very reasonable price and excellent service.
As already mentioned, the Tucker Coverup is where my 642 resides on occassion. I also use a Galco Bellyband as it is very adaptable for a wide varity of dress. Last, but definitly not leaset , is the Nemisis pocket holster for those times when IWB is not possible.
Kramer makes a an IWB holster for j-frames that has a sheepskin backing for better comfort against the body and the clip is off centered slightly behind the cylinder for better concealment. I am looking into this one for myself, you should to.

When I carry my Beretta 92 Compact it is in a Kramer IWB #3, so I first looked at Kramer when considering and IWB for my 642. I keep looking at the sheepskin one you mention, but was concerned the sheepskin would add too much thickness. Looks, well, "Fluffy" in the pictures I've seen.

Re: Tucker Cover-Up. The more I look at it the more I like it. Seems like a great bargain for what it offers. I'm seriously considering "smoothout" with J-hook.

Re: OWB. No Jimmy, not considering OWB for my 642. I figure in a situation I could carry my 642 OWB it would be just as easy to carry my 92 Type-M IWB, so it wouldn't really accomplish much.

Re: Bellyband, Thunderwear, Smart Carry, etc. Reason I'm not currently looking at any of these options is because one of my main criteria is easy-on, easy-off.

Thanks to all for the responses so far. Great info and I do have options to consider which I would have not known of before.

When I carry mine IWB it's in a Lou Alessi Hard Shell Talon (got a great deal on ebay). It's a single "Talon" clip that attaches to the waistband underneath the belt, pretty neat idea and relatively comfortable.

My 642 rides in a pocket Nemesis. Good to see these IWB suggestions. I'm not happy with the cheap Galco IWB that I have now. The revolver tends to back out while on the go.
I just had to click on this thread and see just how someone can come up with 642 Holsters!!!

ohhhhhhhhhhhh,,, A Holster for a 642.

I was just imagining a room with the walls covered with holsters. LOL...
