***This post is NOT advocating violence towards anyone*** (and sorry ahead of time if this has been asked)

Lets all look at recent history, New Orleans, LA.
Its total SHTF and all you have to rely on for defending yourself and perhaps any children you may have. (I guess the wife is optional) j/k

The Police are up the street taking firearms away from law abiding folks.

Do you roll over like a little b***h, or actually fight and maybe die for your rights?
Let me hear the real truth.

My answer, if it wasn't a whole company of them. Yes, I would fight and then get the hell out of there (if I survived and didnt have a family).

Remember, if a policeman is violating your rights only because "That's what he was ordered to do" That excuse didn't work for Nazi party members during the Nuremberg trails.

I would do whatever I had to do to stay alive and keep my family safe. And fight the Police is probably about the worst idea I can think of. If they said they were going to take my guns I'd be mad as hell, but I wouldn't shoot it out with them. I would sue the pants off of them afterwards and buy a boat load of Sigs and a Rohrbaugh or two.

Not only did the police take action to remove firearms from people but the military did as well.
In fact it was the military who did the majority of firearms taking and peace keeping as a large percentage of NoLA police walked away from their jobs.

To the OP your fight would not be with police but with armed military personnel, working on behalf of the govt. be it federal, state, or local.

When I evacuated for Huricanne Charley in 2004, my truck was loaded with food, water, clothes, family photo albums, and every gun that I own with ammo.

There were no guns in my house after the storm, because I took them with me when I left. I did have to leave some ammo behind though.:frown:

I know you all here are intelligent people. But I still dont think this is really coming through clear enough.

This isn't an exact model of what happened in N.O., I was using that as an example.

You may have no where to evac too, you may not be able to get there. It doesn't have to be a mass flood to be a SHTF.

If some REALLY horrible stuff happens, you think your not the only one to be sitting on the highway at a stand still? Your an even easier target sitting behind the steering wheel.

Oh, it's clear. A Katrina-level disaster isn't required for the "fan" to be turned on "high." It takes far, far less than that, and there are any number of situations that can easily occur. It's why the term "paranoia" is used on occasion to describe the level of thought and preparedness many practice, here. IMO, that is the clearest indication some don't get it but, thankfully, that's a slim minority.

For me: I'm in a relatively highly-populated area; I live within 2mi of a well-traveled highway that carries hazardous materials all the time; the wind patterns in my area put me in direct line for any number of high-tech disasters in any direction (ie, release of chemical gas/agents that would kill tens of thousands if released on a grand scale). Believe me, it's clear.

disasters and thugs

:buttkick: :buttkick: Have you noticed how the thugs come out after a disaster. If you are a law abiding citizen that is when you will need a gun the most. Law enforcement will be minable or non existing as in New Orleans and the thugs will take over. It seems that the lastthing that the goverment would want to do is send the National Guard out to disarn its Citizens and leave them at the mercy of the thugs. At times the police are not available to respond while the crime is in progress and by the time they arrive all they can do is take a report as to what happened.
