The recent murder of a student in Chicago has left the citizens stunned by the senseless violence. President Obama has sent Attorney General Eric Holder and Education Secretary Arne Duncan to see what could be done to stem the blood shed. Since the murder weapon in this instance was a splintered portion of a rail-road tie, the AG is giving serious consideration to banning all splintered boards, even boards that are registered to responsible law abiding board owners. Mayor McStupid errr, I mean Mayor Bloomberg is supporting this measure. :twak:

You know, someone ought to tell him that after he gets done being AG under Obama there are a lot of career opportunities over in England with that kind of mindset.....

" Change we can look forward to"

Now there's going to be a mad rush of people scrambling to buy up all the boards in the U.S before the Government ban's them.

Then we can post at which Home Depot we were able to score some 2X4's.

So, a splintered board murdered the student in Chicago? I thought unchecked violence by murderous Chicagoans did that.

They didn't use a gun, knife or similar "killing" tool. They simply picked up whatever was lying around, proving that in the hands of a murderer ANYTHING can be used to commit the attacker's crime. Which should tell these idiots something. Though, I doubt they'll get it on their own. I doubt they'll listen, if told. I doubt they'd understand it, even if they heard.

Does the term "malfeasance" come to mind? I can think of a lot worse.

Watch the putzes push for making illegal the hatred and extreme distrust of politicians. Ah, yes. Welcome to the new century. Politics: The new "hate" crime.

We're gonna have to come up with a new game: Texas Holder.

I wrote this Holder joker a few months ago. It was on this problem of violent youth. No response.

Went down to the lumber yard to get nails for my boards and they were sold out. Told me there had been a run on 16 penny nails and the manufacturers were running four shifts to catch up. I guess I will have to cut down on my woodlot time and just dry whack my boards at home.

I love this story. It gets so much done in such a small space.

Some gun-control advocates question the administration’s timing as Duncan and Holder arrive after a highly publicized beating that didn’t involve a gun.

“Where there have been opportunities for the president to speak out about the issue of firearm violence, he has missed any number of opportunities,” said Thom Mannard, executive director of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.
Translation: "The president didn't do what gun control groups do, and see school kids getting shot as an 'opportunity'."

The administration defended its record.

“President Obama is committed to combating violence on our streets and in our schools, both in Chicago -- which has been particularly hard hit -- and around the nation,” White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage said in a statement. “The administration has focused on the issue of youth violence from the outset.”
Translation: "The president, as on virtually every slightly controversial issue, is too chicken to make the issue 'gun violence', so he's sticking with calling it 'youth violence.' This allows him to, with the agility that only a weasel on meth can muster, not directly confront gun owners while still being able to say he's fighting 'youth violence' which no doubt includes gun violence."

I'll keep saying it folks. As long as there's any meaningful congressional opposition, there will be no significant gun control in Obama's first administration. He won't fight for anything, he's only interested in what he's sure he can get.

If Obama tried to pass a major gun control bill and the only concession he could get was that manufacturers would have to put a sticker on the box that said, "Warning, do not use for criminal purposes," he'd hail it as a major step forward in curtailing gun violence.

Question...

Why has the media in the past few days taken to referring to what was a plank of wood to as being a "railroad tie"?!

Railroad ties are very dense and HEAVY material. You do not pick them up at all without aid of a forklift or some other persons, never mind be a middle school student able to swing it like this and wrap his _child_ sized hands around it (top hand thumb and fingers are both shown wrapped around the board!)...

Video found at Beating Death Of Derrion Albert, 16, Caught On Video

The media went from describing the weapons as being "boards", which clearly per the video is what they in fact were, to being railroad ties and now it's "splintered pieces of railroad ties".

Um hello...No it was not a railroad tie, at all.
Lets refer to objects as being what they actually are rather than converting them into something more menacing and wholly else for the sake of building drama, if not outright lying.

These are railroad ties and they weigh on the order of tens if not hundreds of pounds per unit, and they do not splinter off into boards!

The media is ridiculous.

By referring to the board as being a rail road tie it makes it seem as though the persons involved were uber-human beasts of magnificent strength and unrestrained power. Key word emphasis being on unrestrained.
Don't fall for this tripe, people. It is media hype and marketing as with a purpose and agenda.
No different than referring to a 1911 as being an 'automatic' implying that it just goes off automatically and repeatedly without human control but a single depression of the trigger.

I certainly feel bad for the deceased, but thank heaven it was not at the hands of a gun. Now Dickie Daley can't hold up gun control as a solution to all the city's problems. He's going to have to do something about 2x4s as well. Thus, he now realizes that Chgo's problems go far beyond guns. So now he'll have BO throw money at the problem. This opens up whole new avenues for corruption. Can't wait to see how Fenger HS spends the $1/2M.

Ok now we have a new weapon, lumber.
Just think of the accesories we can carry along with it. I'm thinking a nail gun and a compressor would be handy, a mite bit difficult to conceal, but until lumber is banned it might be a nice change of pace:rolleyes:

Personally I'd much rather ban idiots in the government.
