Howdy folks.
I wanted to put up a photo of this super nice holster that was crafted for me by forum member Red Nichols.
A while back I contacted Red and asked him if he would be willing to construct a really special holster for me for my (very special) family heirloom Colt 1911. Thankfully he agreed.
This is the first opportunity that I have had to post a PIC since my camera was "on loan" to a family member & I just recently got it back.
I pretty much left the cosmetics to Red but, I specified that I wanted an OWB holster for "behind the hip" carry with a forward cant & 1.5" belt.
I also left the holster color up to him.
As you can well see the holster that I received is incredibly beautiful artistically "hand boned" and complete with an Ostrich Leg leather accent or trim.
The stitching is tight and perfect. The "fit" to my firearm is perfect as well.
The holster needed no "break in" period and no wax paper treatment and the "draw" from leather is as smooth as butter with just the right amount of retention.
I have worn this holster for a while now (almost daily) and it carries the old Colt flawlessly with the butt of my firearm pulled in close to the body.
The man from Australia certainly does know his stuff with regard to holsters and (obviously) he makes them as well as he designs them.
Some of you may not be aware of the fact that Red was a highly esteemed holster designer for many of the best and most well known historic holster manufacturers.
His classic holster designs are still being made (and copied) today.
I tried really hard to find something that I DIDN'T like about this holster without any success.
It's just a great functional (yet beautiful) holster that is SO well made that it should easily outlast me.
FUNCTION is really what has always been top priority for me when choosing any holster so the fact that this one just looks so striking is just "Icing On The Cake" for me...but, the "artist" in me appreciates the beauty of it as well. :yup:
Which is also great since my intention is to pass this firearm (and its companion holster) on to my Nephew when he becomes of legal firearm carry age.
About the only change that I will make to this holster will be to "age patina" (darken) the tension adjustment screw up a bit. An extremely minor thing and only because I prefer the look of antique brass.
Anyway...here it is (for your viewing pleasure) an incredible looking holster by Mr. Red Nichols.
ENJOY! :yup:
