It's evident that there are members on both sides of the isle. I want to point out that this thread has been nothing but peaceful / respectful. That peaceful / respectful conversation is something that is missing in today's society where people are so angry / confrontational. The understanding that people with different opinions can get along is what is missing in today's society, and the politicians (on both sides) and the media are what are fueling this anger. This is our biggest issue more so then who did you vote for.

Thanks for the reply.

I strongly disagree with your conclusions, for reasons that have been stated by many others in the media and no doubt with which you are familiar and yet have drawn other conclusions.

It's interesting that it's coming out now that we should reach herd immunity by April.

As for survival, I have more concerns about China than a moribund Russia.

Best,
PEF

Hi Pef,

I haven't "heard" about "herd" immunity by April. :) April has been mentioned by the new administration as a goal towards 100 million vaccination shots. But that is still way under what is needed for such immunity. The projection is we will have 300 million doses (x2, 'cause 2 shots required) sometime this summer. Depending on where the virus is at in terms of mutations, we could be in good shape by the end of the summer assuming enough people take the vaccination. It's really a race to the finish now. The Spanish flu went though mutation and turned very deadly. So far, as far as I know, the mutations of Covid will result in more illness, but hopefully not worse. I'm no expert this is just my understanding.

I'm no fan of China either!

If Putin had something on Trump, I would have thought that we would have seen it during the first impeachment. Suddenly, right when the trade agreement that China had been forced to concede to was about to be completed, a mysterious illness started spreading in China. But of course, not to worry because the WHO said that China said that it wasn't being transmitted person to person. Then shortly after that, China started getting everything that they wanted. And coincidentally so didn't the Democrat Party in the United States. Of course, this is all just speculation. No evidence to back it up.

Wow!

And you think Biden can cut it better than Trump???
Covid-19 as far as I can tell, for all its deaths and for the large impact on our economy, is/was a "softball" virus. Minor League variety. My post wasn't as much focused on that as it was about the next pandemic, one that could involve a far more lethal payload, ala Measles. Now, if a leader makes mistakes but learns from them, then he/she is probably even better equipped to take on the next pandemic. The problem I had with President Trump is he did not learn from it. He did not turn to.

To learn from it, one must admit mistakes or at least misjudgments, or at least that better judgements are possible. A narcissist can not admit mistakes. They simply can't. He could not change his public stance on Covid because to do so would be a sort of implied admitting of a mistake.

Have you ever heard the phrase "dodged a bullet"? I've dodged a few in my life. Things that turned out ok but could have been far worse were it not for luck. As bad as Covid is, we dodged a bullet. It could have been far, far worse.

If President Trump had made the turn to science during his tenure, he would have been hailed a hero even by many in the middle. But he can't admit mistakes. So this isn't the case of Biden being some super hero, although he has made certain changes that are positive in the fight against Covid. Its more the case of next batter up. Not only for this pandemic, but potentially, the next.

I may be totally wrong... but these are my beliefs.

Not necessarily, because having something on a President by the Russians doesn't mean that the dems had a document gotten by legal discovery.

I could be wrong about this. But the pattern of behavior was too much for me to discount.

But I could be wrong.

We shall certainly see. But back before the election, Putin was on record saying that the Democrat Party had much more in common with the ideals of Socialism.
And I remember the Democrats during the Cold War era proudly proclaiming that it was better to be Red than dead.

The herd immunity is a claim from a Johns Hopkins professor in an article in the WSJ. Whether he's right....well, we'll know on May 1.

As for Trump alledgely not turning to science, I've been confused by this - he listened to Fauci and Birx (both have admitted so, and Fauci is not Trump fan), and cut red tape to set up Warp Speed. I remember in March when he assembled leaders of industry and goverment to announce the task force. And, of course, he was the first in the US to embrace travel bans, and took a lot of heat for it.

So I often hear about "believing the science," and from what I can tell, Trump did.

Well, anyway, thanks for braving the fire and sharing your opinion. At least we can agree on guns. :)
