With so many CCW permit holders, I have yet to hear of any reporting in the news of any incident where a person carrying(CCW) has prevented a felony, or has ever had to use deadly force anywhere in a public place in order to defend themselves, or a stranger. You would think it never happens and therefor would consider CCW unnecessary, except to the paranoid. Are there any news articles in areas where you live that have reported any incidents? Is the Lame-Stream media deliberately not reporting it? Just curious.

I think the big reason YOU do not hear about a lot of them is because they are usually only reported at the local level. Local TV affiliates and newspapers.

Rarely is a lone CCW permit holders use of a weapon to prevent a crime is worthy of news on a national level.

There are lots of CCW permit holders using their weapons probably on a weekly basis somewhere across the nation.

I know pretty much all the incidents in My State gets reported and with fairly decent coverage in the local outlets. A lot of them end up getting posted here thanks to our forum members.

But you are not going to see a regular "Joe blow" CCW holders use of a weapon reported on a national level unless that incident has some sort of national importance like stopping a spree killer or some notorious felon who is all the nations LEO's radar. Stop someone on John Walsh's AMW list and it'll be on national news.

Yeah, I know this is NOT what you are looking for. It's an interesting read if only for the "what not to do with a CCW." They definitely lump in some info that seems irrelevant. But no surprise given who is doing this.

VPC - CCW Killers

There were 2 in SC this year. One was a pizza delivery guy.

Pizza delivery man robbed, shoots attacker during struggle - WIS News 10 - Columbia, South Carolina |

And one at an AA meeting in SC.

NJ Man Killed At SC Alcoholics Anonymous Center | WJBF

Keep in mind that lots of defensive shootings happen in the home where it is usually irrelevant if you have a CCP.

I just read some of those stories on the AC website.......and not to sound like a dweeb, but I don't think a few of those shootings were at all justified.I wonder what the outcome for the shooter was?

Back on subject.......

You are right you don't hear about a lot of "good" shootings even on the local news. They post em in the smaller newspapers and such. But yet you hear about the BG's using guns all the time. All the news wants to report is the bad stuff. Hmmm...maybe thats why guns get such a bad rap.

Maybe if we heard about more justified SD shootings, :sheep: would have a different view.

oh of course. but most of the lame stream media is extremely liberal and wants to show only the bad side of society. it pisses people off leaving them more susceptible to believing the liberal media's biased opinions on things like guns being bad things. and that banning guns will stop crime. stupid, yes, we all know.

State run media won't cover anything that might suggest guns are a good thing.. The liberals are stacking their ammunition to try and strip us of our rights one thing at a time. I don't know where we'd be today if it wasn't for the NRA.. God bless those folks!

It doesn't say if the retired police officer had a CPL, but I would assume he did. Funny also that in Michigan casinos and gambling halls are criminal safety (no legal gun) zones. That restriction may not apply to retired LEO's however.

Retired Police Officer Kills Gunman In Burton - News Story - WNEM Saginaw

BURTON, Mich. -- A retired police officer shot and killed a masked gunman at a Flint-area poker room.

Broadcast reports indicate the gunman shot out the front door of the Palace Poker Room in Burton around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Once inside the Bristol Road building he fired at least one round into the ceiling and told the 30-60 people inside to hit the floor.

The report said two of the people in attendance were former police officers. One of them was armed and shot and killed the masked gunman.

It’s not clear at this time if the gunman was the same person who robbed the poker room last month.

And how many people were killed by non ccw holders? The point is everyone with ccw is not perfect, just significantly better than the rank and file.

And actually (yes I agree even one is too large a number) when you look at the numbers listed and the number of CCW holders in the US they are not all that bad.

Permit Holders

I just went over the reports on the eight LEO's killed by CCW holders and I may be wrong but IMHO at least half of them were at least in part the fault of the checkers....... for example nobody with a DV charge gets a permit in most states, but there was a couple that did. How did that happen. They want more laws when just following the procedures of the ones we have would have (maybe) kept the guns out of the hands of the shooter. In some states even having a restraining order means your guns get taken away. Why didn't that happen here?

You get no disagreement from me. I came across that searching for the 2 defensive shootings I posted. And I came across it either noted or linked several times. It's out there and I think relevant to the discussion. Mainly in a know your enemy sort of way. I too noticed lots of folks who should have lost their CCP. One guy strangled his wife, not gun related. Lot's of them where people who knew each other. Lots of suicides. And definitely some idiot's in the mix.

Yeah it's 85 people in 2 years. How many car fatalities in 2 yrs? Drownings? Strangulations? Stabbings? And I also know the amount of defensive CCP uses far outweighs these. But then, they don't seem to care about being able to protect yourself, that's what the cops are for right? :twak:

2 news reports in the Memphis suburbs come to mind...

Good:

A few years back an employee in a Schnucks grocery meat dept went crazy and started attacking several people with a butcher knife. He chased one woman out into the parking lot where he was subdued by a TN HCP holder that retrieved his handgun from his car and held the attacker at gunpoint until police arrived.

Bad:

Earlier this year an arguement broke out between a TN HCP holder and an individual that parked his car too close to the licensed carrier. The arguement got heated and shoving was involved, the man with the HCP went to his car, got his handgun and shot the other individual in the chest, killing him.

As far as liberals are concerned fact don't count. That has been proven time and time again. Heck you want numbers - over 600 murders per year in Chicago by non-permit holders but that doesn't get mentioned.

Sadly people don't understand that the police are in no way responsible for your safety, nor are they in any way responsible or obligated to protect anyone. Their ONLY responsibility is to enforce the law, period.

People need to wake up and join, even if you don't agree with 100% of where they stand

Can't add ANYTHING to this^^^^^^^^^^^^

It's situations like the bad example here that makes us CCW'ers bad. We can't let our temper lead us to do the wrong thing. At the point he drew his weapon he became a BG, same would have been true if he were an off-duty LEO.

What would be cool is if someone with some HTML chops and a little free server space made a ticker to go along with that that shows the same statistics from non-CCL holders and some %-ages . It could be called "the rest of the story" or something like that.

The data's available on the CDC site IIRC.
