All,
I want to mount a "tac" light to my favorite AR15 and I don't want to buy over priced rails to mount it on.
I've got an A2 Bushmaster carbine and want to keep it simple. So that being said I am looking for a good, inexpensive way to mount either a "tac" light or laser (like crimson trace) but not at that price.
What says you guys?? Any ideas?

You should check out the rails that bolt to your front sight pillar. They are inexpensive and give you about 2" of rail on both sides of the front sight.

Pay special attention to this post. It's a Midwest Industries MCTAR FSB rail mount (an all around solid mount). I have a Vltor Scout light mount and Surefire G2 LED mounted to mine. Some people mount their lights to a rail section added to the plastic handguards, but I have long arms and mounting the light further out by the FSB of my 16" middy is more comfortable for me. A Surefire X300 would be ideal, but the G2/Scout/MI mount combo costs a lot less.

GG&G has a single piece mount for the stock hand guards. I used one for several years before my current Bushmaster. All you'd need to do is drill a couple of holes. I still have the complete hand guard set with the mount on the left side approximately 10 o'clock if you're interested. Carbine length....7 1/4" I think.

Elzetta makes this mount, which is cool because you won't have to buy the flashlight mount in addition to a piece of rail to attach it to.
