While finshing up Armed Responce (ill post a review today or tomm) He brings up the point of check to see if you can legally use Hollowpoints ..

He also states that in New Jersy they are not legal if carred outside the home :thumbdown ... So legal in your house and Illegal if you walk outside the door

Anyone else have to deal with a law like this or have you even checked i hadnt but have now and no problems here with carrying HP's

Carry what you want, as long as it isn't handloads. Anything the factory made is legal, even if it's KTW, as I know one guy who keeps 6 in an ammo wallet from days gone by. No restrictions on firearm, magazine, ammo, etc., as long as it's legal with the feds, ie, full auto may be carried open or concealed as long as it's on the National Registry....

I've heard of these laws. So retarded... why would you want to restrict people to rounds that don't make ballistic sense? Hollowpoints and the like are actually much safer than the full metal jacket rounds they want people to use.

It just proves again that gun control isn't about guns it's about control.

Thank goodness I can carry Glasers and Gold Dots.

This info is only valuable if you also state which state (or city) has any particular restriction.

MA has no such restrictions on type of ammo.

No F/A can be carried anywhere, also true of rifles and shotguns. You can shoot them at ranges but carrying any of these loaded or uncased on a public way is a felony (yup, even if hunting).

armoredman, might want check the state and federal laws.
Nothing in AZ laws state legally produced and sold LE AP ammo is illegal. if you can find differant, please show me - remember AZ pre-emption law too. Fed law is a morass or lies and deception - I would trust myself there anyway, and use only commercially made JHP.

Look, not wanting to argue...but if you are going to pass out legal advise, you and this forum, may find themselves responsible for that advise.

Federal law does exist concerning armor piercing handgun ammo. State law can be more restrictive than federal law, but not less.

Might want to look under federal laws concerning ammunition.

If you want to carry it, and prove DOM, DOP, after you are arrested, that is up to you.

I am too old for battles like that, so I'll carry other ammo. Lots of good ammo out htere that does not fall under the umbrella.

That's what life is all about, personal decisions. :)

Above and beyond the legalities of AP, it really is NOT the best ammo for dealing with a personal attack. It's preferable to expend ALL the energy in the person hit, not drill neat holes and hit perhaps many other innocents behind the perp or drill thru buildings.

Personal defense generally doesn't include the need to disable tanks and motor vehicles! :duh:

LenS has hit the nail on the head here. You want the bullet to dump all it's energy inside the target, it can't do that if it simply passes through which is frequently what happens with ball ammo.
A good choice that is now on the market is the new Power Ball ammo made by Cor-Bon. Having a "ball" ammo appearance but with hollow point performance. Check it out.

the pwr ball ammo looks good. I was wondering , anyone seen any test reports on it? I thought it might work better passing thru light clothing better than HP.

Has anybody had any experience with RBCD brand ammo? Expensive stuff! I have a buddy in SpecOps that swears by it.

I will stick to carrying what the local police carry. They have proven time and again that it does the job and if I have to put some of it to use, the ammo I used will not be an issue

I worry about richochet and I worry about thru and thru penetrations. That's why I always carry a combo of Glaser Silver or MagSafe in my primary mag and any good JHP in the backup mag. Hydra-Shok, Golden Sabre, or Cor-Bon, usually.

Can carry non-AP ammo. Usually some kind of HP/JHP, but been none to carry wadcutters, and a wee bit of everything else, including shot for snakes.
