Attorney General Holder Reveals Aggressive Gun Control In Response to Ft. Hood Terror Attack

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Before the Senate Judiciary Committee November 18th, 2009, Attorney General Eric Holder revealed a stunningly broad and aggressive anti-gun agenda.

"The President of the United States asked that politicians not use the Ft. Hood attack to engage in 'political theater.' It appears those committed to attacking gun owners and the Second Amendment simply can't help themselves and are engaged in blaming guns and gun owners on the heels of this terrorist attack. Sadly it looks like 'politics as usual,'" said LEAA's spokesperson, Ted Deeds.

After explaining and defending his decision to give enemy combatants constitutional protections and the right to public trial in civilian courts, Attorney General Holder revealed his support for a national gun owner registration scheme and authorizing the government to ban firearm possession for any person by merely adding that person's name to the terror watch list.

Drawing reasonable conclusions from what Holder publicly said, we now know:

* Holder wants a national, permanent gun registration system administered by law enforcement. A registration of honest citizens that have cleared the federal background check for gun purchases with those records permanently retained by and shared among law enforcement.
* Holder wants new federal authority to prohibit any person on the federal watch list (reported to be 400,000 names) from buying guns and supports confiscating guns from those on the list who possess them.

Transcribing General Holder: "The position of the Administration is that there should be a basis for law enforcement to share information about gun purchases." "... [It's not] inconsistent to allow law enforcement agencies to share that kind of information, for that information to be retained and then to be shared by law enforcement." "It seems incongruous to me that we would bar certain people from flying on airplanes because they are on the terrorist watch list and yet we would still allow them to posses weapons." {Emphasis added}

LEAA's Executive Director Jim Fotis said, "Those behind the badge don't believe more restrictions on honest gun owners is a reasonable, practical or constitutional response to acts of terrorism. As a retired officer, I know that America's men and women in blue want to fight terrorism, to stop terrorists; not waste time keeping records on innocent gun owners!"

Our Governments Logic

So, let me get this straight....
Instead of law enforcement of some type doing detective work to stop people that they have knowledge of their communications between radicals and people in our country, we are going to create more paperwork for law enforcement to track guns. :hand1:
So, when is this AG going to file a suit against 1. the gun manufacturer, and 2. the United States Army? I mean the logic would be that these parties are responsible for what happened. NOT THE INDIVUDIAL BEHIND THE GUN! Right?

While I endorse keeping weapons out of the hands of terrorist, being on the "No Fly" list does not a terrorist make.

I wouldn't put it past this administration to add the names of, so far, law abiding citizens who hold a different political view than the current administration on the "No Fly" list. I'm asking myself daily how the American public could've been so stupid, when the writing was on the wall.

Why don't they just start with taking away guns from criminals. I wish I could remember Holders quote about not letting a catstrophy go to waste.

Can you share what Holder actually said in response to the Fort Hood shooting? Nothing in the linked article describes any new statements, just a rehash of what we already knew.

It's not the conservatives that are asleep. It's the fact that we have no descent choices at the polls.

Don't worry; this plays right into our hands. The current administration would not gun control because they knew what would happen. Now it seems there is no shortage of fools in his administration, and now that Congress is on the ropes, Obama's magic is rapidly diminishing Holder has decided to respond by throwing gasoline onto a fire.......

2010 the Democrats are going to get crushed. Bet on it.

when will they learn they can keep making more and more laws but terrorists and criminals are still gonna obtain guns illegally. by their logic, we should just make a law that says, terrorists and criminals cannot legally or illegally own weapons. that should stop 'em right in their tracks. cuz we all know terrorists and criminals obey laws.

Lets hope people keep waking up to the hope and change we are getting. I did not vote for this change to begin with.....

oh yeah im not even scared of this one bit. Even if they wanted me to register my guns you can bet my rear end I will never do so as it is not warranted in our constitution.

I do remember a civil war in the 1800's over govt pressure cracking down on southern enterprise and land owners.

Well now they are cracking down their pressure on constitutionalists like my self and many others.

sigh...

Why dont they make a law that sais'

Terrorist found surviving at the scene of the crime will, and within 5 hours, be paralyzed from the neck down, covered in honey, and thrown in a swine pit.

And televise it to the world. That will send a clear message.

After all the signs exhibited by Hasan he was not added to any "terrorist watch list."
So the list is pretty much useless in this regard.

tangoseal: I think a daily pig urine enema would make a nice addition to your suggested regimen.

Senator XYZ:

WTH is wrong with our country?

A single man snapped, at Fort Hood, a man with a long history of abrasive, aggressive and off-bevel remarks about his politics, his religious beliefs and his opinions about so-called “infidels.” He falsely claimed to follow the precepts of Islam, in spite of being a psychopathic murderer in waiting.

The response of those in temporary elected power, to this one-man infamy at the well-defended, well-armed military installation in the heart of the nation? Attorney General Holder has made their choice clear: destruction of the Second Amendment's protections of the right of the People to keep and bear arms. It was only a matter of time before the true colors of the gun-haters were made clear. Well, the time has come and the kid gloves have been taken off.

It is preposterous to believe that the United States will somehow, magically, turn out to be the one lone example in the recorded history of the world to implement weapons registration and avoid following that up with ultimate confiscation of the arms of the People. EVERY instance of large-scale registration of weapons with the "king" has resulted in the "king" exercising power over the People due to the perceived threat the People represent to the "king."

Well, that's rich. It is different in the USA. Here, the People ARE the ultimate power. There is no "king." We need no king. More than anything, we do NOT need temporarily-elected autocrats behaving as if they were kings, in direct contravention of the Constitution's covenants and protections of the Liberty of the People.

So. It comes to this. WTH are you going to do about it?

We've got an Administration running rampant, desiring nothing less than full registration (and, for my money, ultimate confiscation) of defensive weapons kept by the People. If they can't have that, they'll suffer through with restricting the possession of them to within an inch of our lives, such that we cannot have them around when it matters, when we're being attacked by violent criminals (ie, as is the case in Washington, D.C.).

By the way, why in the name of all that is right and good in this nation are citizens in Washington, D.C. still routinely denied the right to keep and bear arms in spite of the Heller decision, denied the ability to carry (“bear”) those defensive life-saving tools, and criminalized until liberty is barely recognizable?

If we are not careful, we are going to incinerate the last vestiges of the U.S. Constitution that still hang by a thread. Thankfully, as of today, the Second Amendment is one of those core, foundation principles that still exists in the hearts and minds of the People, cemented into our daily lives via the state Constitutions across the country.

However, we are under a continual threat from those who hate guns and hate those who dare believe that firearms are the only reasonable life-saving tool that has a chance of saving a person in the face of violent crime, on the instant of that crime being executed. A person under violent criminal attack needs to be able to defend against that violence RIGHT THEN, with sufficient power to stop the violence, until such time as assistance can be obtained via a call for help.

What the gun-hating Administration is proposing is yet another set of restrictions to add to the rest, in a long line of desired restrictions. In spite of any “spin” or claims to the contrary, such further unconstitutional restrictions would have one result: to deny upstanding citizens the practical ability to defend against crime.

No such statutes affect criminals in the least way. Criminals ignore signs, statutes, platitudes and advertising that proclaim their actions as criminal. And yet, they continue to do what they do, in spite of our pretty little signs. A facility with a sign posted that indicates "No Guns Allowed" means this place is a criminal-empowerment zone, free of people with the means to defend themselves, full of sheep awaiting the slaughter. Nothing more.

WTH are you going to do about it?

We must STOP this bald-faced attempt to cram further restrictions on the RKBA down the throats of the American People. The U.S. Government is disallowed the right or authority to eviscerate the People's ability to own and carry arms, particularly in their own defense and the defense of others. The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is clear in that regard, if nothing else.

It comes to this. Nobody has the responsibility to defend me, except me. The U.S. Supreme Court has confirmed this exact point, that no individual citizen has any legitimate expectation of duty on the part of law enforcement to protect a person in the face of crime. The ONLY one with such a responsibility is me. But, how in the world am I supposed to defend against crime if you dare allow my disarmament? Be specific, because the answer is, quite literally, of life and death importance to me. If you forcibly disarm me of my ability to defend, then I will not be able to defend against crime when it comes knocking. Can you understand that? It's not rocket science. It is simple enough that any child can understand.

Please, whatever else you do, DO NOT ALLOW the People of our great nation to be forcibly disarmed by temporarily-elected autocrats, disarmed at the point of a gun (via threat of fines, criminalization and imprisonment), when individuals are the last line of defense in the face of violent crime. You simply cannot allow this to happen. The People cannot allow this to happen.

Regards,

Count on it.

I'm not surprised at Komrade Holder's remarks.

He is a socialist and he has never tried to hide his anti-gun beliefs.

All of them will be kicked out of office in 2010 and 2012.

It will be difficult (if not impossible) to un-do the damage that they cause to this great nation.
