So I got this Glock 27 on a trade. It's main selling point were the night sights, and the fact that I was specifically looking for a 27. I saw pics of the grip before hand, but didn't really think it could be that bad. Once I got the gun I quickly found out it was going to rip my hand up on the range bacause the home done stippling job was very sharp. I then shaved and sanded the stippling off and left it looking more ugly than ever!

Next I tried to cover up the ugliness with some grip tape

Not sure if that worked or not, but I sure wouldn't have ever lost my grip on it!

Finally I decided the only way I would have a chance at liking this gun would be to re-do the stippling or buy a new frame :hand1:. Here's what came out of it. I tried to mimic a "tree bark" look I saw somewhere because I figured it would give me my best chance of covering up the divots from the original job.

So here it is, keep in mind I'm not looking for compliments on the job (I know it's ugly), just want to know if you guys think it looks better than before.

Someone is worried that their Glock is ugly. Now that there is funny, I don't care who you are.

Tree bark looks fine, brother.

I wouldn't worry to much about 'ugly' there is a quote goes something like "Colts and Kimbers are what you show your friends - Glocks are what you show your enemies"

the 'tree bark' is an improvement - but how does it feel?

I had to dig it pretty deep to cover the original divots as much a possible. It's actually much nicer on the hand than it was before. Before it had a lot of sharp plastic around the divots. I tried to make sure it was as smooth as I could get it.

I'm not sure that it looks any better:gah:, but if the grip works for you now:ticking:, then it's fine. We don't carry guns for 'looks'.OMO:22a:

It's as good as it's probably gonna get there. Not too bad all things considered.

I had thought about using some kind of epoxy, but didn't know what to use. Thanks for the links, I may look into it.

Better after but if it were mine, I'd get a new frame. Sorry. :embarassed:

After I reckon. But still pretty gnarly looking. I don't know how I'd deal with something like that. I'm thinking I could smooth it all out, but the grip girth would likely never be the same. But I would try. Best of luck with it!

I agree with this. Im not a fan of permantly defacing guns because any resale value goes down the tubes. Add-ons on the other hand are fine such as grip sleeves, mag extensions, sights, etc.

Just in case my original post wasn't clear... I traded into the gun with the grip already done the first time. The grip was already ruined, so it's not like I had anything to lose. I would never permanently alter any of my guns because I have a tendency to swap guns a bit. This has been a good learning experience for me, and has turned me away from doing trades out of state where I have to deal with shipping without seeing first.

I think it looks better than before...but its still OOOOGLY.

You may want to tie it behind your truck and travel at a high rate of speed on a gravel road to improve the looks some.

Get a new frame, learn from the mistake, and enjoy the new gun.

Much better after, but still iffy. Can you sand it down a bit now and smooth it up a little? But, if you can live with it, forget what the rest of us think!
