That is your fed goverment. Can't supply ammo where it is needed but DHS can hoard it. I'm sorry but this is all about politics. Your president wants "undocumented democrats" to cross the boarder so they can give them free stuff with your money.

The more I think about this, the angrier that I get.

What greater threat to our national security than to continue to undermine our border security? Somebody please convince me that Al-Qaeda can't easily come across the Mexican border?

I believe that something very bad is going to happen within the next few years.

When something as unspecific as that happens are you going to say, "I told you so"?

I can't wait to see how accurate your prediction is.

Any agent worth their salt will purchase their own ammo to stay proficient.

Although, this likely is yet another example of the administration creating chaos in order to blame the sequester.
So just where are they going to buy ammo, the shelves are bare and available 40 S&W is expensive.

My best friend is currently in their academy. Luckily he is getting more than enough trigger time, but when he graduates, I'll send him what I can find, even if he IS shooting an HK.

If you do not have extra ammo to bring, you will be given extra time to clean and maintain your issued handgun as well as station long arms.

So if you don't show up with extra ammo you will be stuck cleaning the shotguns and M4s.

There are two separate issues here. Ammo availability is a nuisance right now. Via internet orders I can still lay hands on whatever I need, but just not at the same price that I used to. I haven't carried a gun for a living in close to 30 years now, and I've never run out of ammo. Good cops will stay trained and armed, regardless.

The real issue here is that the administration continues to undermine our national security for the sake of politics, and leaving these officers to fend for themselves. Unacceptable.

This has been going on for several years. The mismanegnement of the agency has caused these budgetary problems in every facet. The BP is not short of ammo nationally it is usually a regonal issue. FYI the Border Patrol is DHS, it is the agency in DHS that uses the most ammo.

It is against policy to use anything but issue ammo in service weapons, under DHS knowingly violating policy can get you fired.

I retired 1 1/2 years ago and keep hearing horror stories from those on the inside.

Maybe Janet can get all those guards she hired to protect the NOAA - National Weather Service to each pony up a box for the Border Patrol! I assume they're guarding all the data on Global Warming and we don't want that released! God know what will happen if that gets out with out Al Gore approval! :urla9ub:

If I am not mistaken Border Patrol is part of DHS so after all they bought makes you wonder were it went
But "all they bought" is not what some would have you believe. That mythical 1.6 billion purchase was not a purchase at all but only a price solicitation. Even after they set a price they still have to buy the ammo.

if the Boarder Patrol is out of ammo it's because it's politically beneficial for someone to say that it is.

If I remember correctly they only took delivery of ± 250 million rounds by December 2012. Of course these are five year contracts so at a maximum they would get 320,000,000 rounds per year (320 million rounds for those who went to public schools and can't figure out the commas)!

I am curious as to where you got those figures and the specifics. Like when the deliveries were supposed to have started. December 2012 is in the first quarter of FY2013.
In all of FY2012 the entire DHS only purchased 103,178,200 rounds at a cost of $36,535,910.
For FY2013 their ammo budget is $37,263,698.
So are we to believe they have acquired in the first quarter of the year more than two and half times as much as they did in the previous year and did it for only about 2% more cash spent?

Either that or someone is fudging the numbers. Sure you can say that DHS has bought over a billion rounds of ammo. But is it so scary if you include that the total is for all the ammo bought going back into the 1990's?
