Many years ago when I worked in the electric utility industry we had a new power plant that made extensive use of CS-137 radiation sources to sense hopper levels and liquid density, and that meter was what we used to comply with Federal DOE regulations as they applied to radiation safety. The engineer I worked for at the time was the company’s designated RSO (radiation safety officer) and I remember we all had to take a 3-week course on radiation safety and materials handling followed by a lengthy test to be certified.

Fun times, those instruments bring back memories!

If that needle ever comes off the low peg, you might want to consider relocating your body because you are in or near a high radiation area. Cool meter, though.

Neat story. I've read that the FED still has plants keep some old CD gear in case of emergency.

I keep some 742 pens/chargers for my NBC bag.
They've been holding zero for a month straight now.

Yeah. That's true, for bugout use I recommend the 742 pens (good working ones)/chargers.
