Buffalo Bore 9mm +P at 1100fps increased the luck factor.

I rather use Underwood's 124grn 9mm +P+ at 1300 fps (if all I had was a 9).

Especially if they're loaded in an MP5! (My choice of ...9mm bear guns). :biggrin2:

I think I would rather have Bear Spray than a 9mm. But Geez, the guy is a guide in Alaska where bear are as common as coyotes here and he only had a 9mm??

Small bear, agitated and maybe not in a full charge, and the guide got lucky. Also lucky he didn't waste rounds on a head shot. Grizzly skulls have brushed off more than a 9mm.

complacency, always armed but not for the reality of defending against an angry bear...The guide knew the area was full of boar grizzly, as apposed to sows with cubs..lives in the area....choose to carry a 9mm bottom feeder with 21st century ammo...Me ? never be in that situation, fishing with a poorly armed body-guard, I would not knowingly put myself in the same area with a bear, period.
Hunted and packed meat in Alaska, during the season, Carboo, then moose then bear, bear "hunting" was ambushes on the gut piles...always with a pump gun, and magnum side arm....$.02

Dang!!..I guess he's been doing it for that many years he knows what needs to be done. We only have black bear to worry about around our house. They usually spook real easy. I have come on to sow with cubs and still had no problem. After reading this I may look into a bigger caliber for being out and about on the mountain.
If he was my guide I would have had a bigger gun on then he did

Maybe it's because I was originally born in a city, but with so many places to fish, why fish in a place that is riddled with bears n the first place? Kind of like swimming in lakes where crocs are know to be, or going for a stroll at night in a bad neighborhood.

And he had a Smith 44mag but decided to take the 9mm instead. He says he knew the small waters he was going to fish had numerous male brown bears. He doesn't sound like the guide I'd want to take me on a dream trip. It almost sounds hokey or fake its so filled with stupidity.
