Own an HK G3A3 variant?

Mine has started to 'skip'. It will fire full auto until it gets to about the 10 or 12th round, then stop. If I pull the trigger again, it will go full auto until the magazine is empty.

I have spoken to HK, but they seem a little less than helpful concerning class III firearms.

Only thing i can say is get it to a gunsmith or back to Hk to get it fixed.

Sorry i cant help ya more on that we werent allowed to own Fullauto here until 1st of the year so no exp with them ...

Have ya had the trigger pack apart to clean it and inspect ?

the HK auto sear is the same sear as in my MP5. Oddly, when i swapped out the sears, the MP5 worked flawlessly, and the G3 still stopped after 10 or 15 rounds.

I'm gonna end up bringing it into a gunsmith Friday...as I said, HK wasn't that helpful.

Stopping on an empty, or hot chamber? Three things come to mind:

1) If empty chamber, you need to check your headspace-possibly switch to the next size rollers. You may need a new mainspring.

2) If hot chamber, you may need a new hammer spring. If the pack is out of an MP5k/9mm, it may just be getting the heavier .308 spring.

3) Again, if the pack is from a different gun, it may not be sitting high enough to be 100%.

Good luck!

Just saw that. I'd bet money on the hammer spring.

Robert was the easiest guy to deal with when I was getting spares for my 91 and SP89.

The auto sear is interchangeable, but the hammer spring is not.

It is stopping on a hot chamber. It will fire 10 rounds or so then just stop. If I release the trigger, then pull it again, it will continue to fire full auto until the mag is empty.

The semi notch is being engaged, and reset when you release- the FA notch isn't being engaged. New hammer and sear springs. Check the sear's engagement face for "square", and check the hammer's auto notch for wear- may need replacing. Since it's so sporadic, I would think springs rather than sear/hammer wear.

We may be talking at cross purposes on the springs: You're right- the 9mm and .308 are not interchangeable. I wondered if the 9 had accidentally been left in place, when shooting .308. If so, your action can run a shade too fast, or you'll have light hits.

I have a sear spring from a parts kit that I'm never going to use. I can drop it in the mail, if you want to see if it makes a diff. Robert should have "new" ones, though...
