I'm wondering if there are any decent quality 9mm 1911's out there that aren't super high end like the kimbers and springfields. I really don't want to drop 800-1000 on a gun but I shoot 1911's much better then anything I have tried so far. Any suggestions?

The only thing that comes to mind is a used Para, but you'd probably be better off with the EMP.

STI has a couple 3" guns (LS9, Off Duty, Escort, and Rogue) in 9mm, but it's in the same price range as the others and I'd still rather have an EMP.

Yeah for any 1911 you're looking at at least $680. That's the cheapest i've seen and it was a pt1911 like i carry. Go ahead and spend the extra money to get a good one. 1911's are not cheap and if you find a cheap one it will probably be a mistake.

For example. My dad and I bought a lima (spelling?) 1911 and put 3 rounds through it. The slide release pin snapped in half and we has to use a screw driver to release the slide to get the live round out

I sure would like one too! Just sold a Colt 3" 1911 in .45 because I just wasn't good with it but I love the 1911. I'd like an EMP but my goodness they're expensive!!

I've done a lot of looking and research and never found an inexpensive 1911 in 9mm. They all seem to be $800+ and mostly +.

It's part of the reason I've ended up with 3 kahrs in 9mm.

Good luck on your search!

I thought you LOVED the Taurus 709 and that it fit your budget. Has that changed? Seriously, if you have found a gun that you love, and it is inexpensive, get it, carry it, and spend your extra $$ on other things in life (practice ammo being a reasonable choice).

I'd suggest saving for the EMP. I'd like to have one but after packing a SA 1911 for 19 years I went with a H&K P7 PSP last year and retired the 1911 to my bedside. I've since went back to packing a S&W 19 snub with a model 36 as a BUG. Can shoot a revolver better than a semi as I learned to shoot on them YEARS ago and I never worry about malfunctions

The H&K is more reliable, accurate and cheaper to shoot than the .45 was. Did I say it's the most accurate factory 9mm I've ever shot.
Align sights, squeeze cocker and squeeze trigger. Round goes where you had the sights aligned.

If you are dead set on a 1911 platform the EMP is the only one I would consider. Great gun, but for the money they should of stipled or checkered the front strap.

Check with budsgunshop.com. They have a credit program and will sell you a gun on the installment plan. You can get a quality piece on time. Their prices are very reasonable too.

I have a very simple low-budget solution for your problem. The Zastava M88A in 9mm Luger. It is a single action pistol with a magazune disconnect and a slide-mounted safety. They are well-built and shoot extremely well for the money. These are built in Serbia and are of all steel construction.

The only drawback to this pistol, is that it isn't +P rated. Beyond that, it is an excellent entry-level 9mm. Go to the EAA website, and look up the dimensions. The pistol isn't much bigger than a M1908 Colt in .380 ACP.

I hope that this helps.

I did a lot of research when I was looking at buying an EMP. Being primarily a glock 9mm person, I ran into a good amount (IMHO) of people that had problems with their 9mm EMPs. Mostly feeding issues.

What I learned is that Springfield has outstanding customer service and they will bend over backwards to make it right. They have very good smiths who will polish the feed ramp, throat the barrel and even touch up the trigger when you send it in. They will get that EMP to run right.

I don't own any 1911 type pistols and I REALLY like the 9mm cartridge. I keep thinking about getting an EMP but the price is what holds me back. Every time I save up about half the money needed I buy something else. Whether it is another glock, pocket pistol or another AR-15 upper assembly I find lots of other firearms that cost half the EMP (or any other quality 1911) that I would like to have just as much. Hard to resist that when you can have those in your hand today vs waiting even more for that 1911.

It's too bad 1911s can't compete price was with other quality firearms like glocks, XDs, sigs etc....
