Conn. reaches deal on tough gun laws after Newtown

The proposal includes new registration requirements for existing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets...The package also creates what lawmakers said is the nation's first statewide dangerous weapon offender registry, creates a new "ammunition eligibility certificate," imposes immediate universal background checks for all firearms sales, and extends the state's assault weapons ban to 100 new types of firearms and requires that a weapon have only one of several features in order to be banned.
Plus more that will likely make you mad...Such as:

In Connecticut, we've broken the mold," he said. "Democrats and Republicans were able to come to an agreement on a strong, comprehensive bill. We can get it done here and they should get it done in their respective states and nationally in Congress.

Wonder when Colt will be moving?

I feel terrible for the folks in Connecticut. They've just been raped. I wonder what the specifics of "ammunition eligibility certificate" are. They weren't explained in the attached article.

Isn't more than just Colt based there? I too would like to know the specifics of the ammo certificate and also how they're going to go about dealing with the universal checks...

Many "blocked comments" in the comment section...

One posed a very apt question... "Is Connecticut going to give up the nickname, "The Constitution State?"

One wonders...

Did the Republicans really "come to an agreement", or were they just bowled over?
"Is Connecticut going to give up the nickname, "The Constitution State?"

Maybe they meant we just go by our own constitution...state.
Did the Republicans really "come to an agreement", or were they just bowled over?
Me thinks they were run over and then the dem's threw the bus in reverse for good measure.
Did the Republicans really "come to an agreement", or were they just bowled over?
If so, will the tea party have enough to fill the voids left by ousted Republicans? How long will CN live under these laws?

My bet? They will not be repealed.
Might go to SCOTUS, but prolly not.
And not a single one of these measures would have prevented what happened up there.

Any Constitution worthy of such title should be able to withstand a good mudslinging - even a drowning - and end up in the same ridiculous and arogant debate from which it was conceived - or stolen.
And not a single one of these measures would have prevented what happened up there.

It's not like it was a gun owners utopia to begin with. Already had some of the strictest laws around... Notice in the article one of them said they still weren't satisfied and they would be pushing for more.

I get sick to my stomach reading this junk getting passed illegally. Every time it does. Ever place it does.

I was born and raised in CT. Then I wised up and moved to Kentucky about 5 years ago. I guess I made the proper choice, and as mentioned I recommend the immediate forfeiture of the nickname, "the constitution state"

Coming to a town near you... In all seriousness, i wonder if it will be overturned, partially, or whatever like in NY. My gut says no on this one.

Like i said before... Many questions loom about the implementation and enforcement of universal checks, ammo certificates etc.

The proposal was revealed to rank-and-file lawmakers Monday after weeks of bipartisan, closed-door negotiations among legislative leaders. A vote was expected Wednesday in the General Assembly, where Democrats control both chambers, making passage all but assured. The bill would then be sent to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who has helped lead efforts to strengthen the state's gun laws but has not yet signed off on the proposed legislation.
I doubt they were able to get a word in edgewise.

A lot of that going around. Oregon is introducing a bill to ban K-12 carry, even though licensees have never shot up a school. It's "safer for the kids". They also want to ban OC in government buildings. Again, it's "safer".
I doubt they were able to get a word in edgewise.
The announcement serves to smear Republican legislators to their voters and keep the party weak.
I doubt they were able to get a word in edgewise.
If they control both chambers then it for sure won't matter now, will it...
looks like my main woods gun ah G20 has just become ah door stop since it houses ah 15-r mag & they don't make 10-rounders.

Guess if I fluster any bruins in the woods; I'll just throw it at um and hope it knocks um out :dead:
