Bought my first 9 mm last fall and have been accumulating FMJ ammo recently. After a series of purchases, I've accumulated about 1500 rounds at an average cost of about .54 cents per round. Just wondering how that compares to the cost of 9 mm ammo pre-election?

I have been buying 9mm all year at .20-.30 cents from Walmart. Mostly the fed. 100 round boxes that cost $21.97. I have about 2000 rounds

I have seen it online in the .30-.40 range. Walmart here never has any.

Just before The Banic, I bought a case of 1000 for $220. One of my LGS put out on FB tonight that they have 9mm in stock at $18/box of 50.

I finally found some yesterday at an LGS while traveling in Indiana. American Eagle $21/box of 50. Terrible price, but I was just glad to restock.

Best deal in Dallas I could find per-crisis was Walmart, Federal FMJ Champion 115g 100 count for $19.97, or 20 cents per round.

I recall the clerk bringing out two cases of 10 boxes each and only buying six boxes - 600 rounds, for $120. I told myself "well, if I run out I'll just come back and buy more".

if you are paying more then $24 for a box of 100 you are paying to much and need to shop around. Not that hard to find if you put some time into it.

You are doing better than a lot of people.....54/rd isn't bad for the current climate. I have been getting lucky at around .35/rd, but I reload for most of my shooting needs and only purchase new on a whim when I see good prices. Most of that luck has come from Cabelas, no sales tax and I leverage shipping with shotgun shells or reloading stuff that I constantly keep in my cart or 'wish list'. Hang in there, it will get better soon hopefully....

I'm down to my last 500 rounds at the moment, but I've only ever paid more than 30 cents per round once, and it was when I REALLY needed some ammo for an event I was attending and couldn't find any. I paid 60 cent per round for a box of 250 on that occasion.

I'm still getting the 100 count WWB at my local walmart for $24. I just have to get up at 3 AM to get it.

lgs has Tulo steel for 29.00 for 50 rounds junk ammo and a terrible price, 223 ammo for 14.00 for a box of 20 when academy has 223 for 5.99 a box but he's the only game in town for 9mm haven't seen any in months

That's slightly over 2x pre-crazy prices. 100 rounds of 115gr fmj WWB was/still is $23.99 plus tax at Wally. I bought some higher quality stuff for $325/1,000. Thats 25 - 32.5 cents per shot. I WON'T pay more than that. Personal defense rounds are in the $1/ range. Use gunbot.net to find reasonable prices. Always check to gun counter at Wally every time your there. Usually its a waste of time, but every now and then you'll get lucky.

It wasn't the election so much as it was Sandy Hook that sent prices on anything gun related into the stratosphere. From my observations, the supply of guns available is starting to rebound and SOME calibers (.40 for instance) are becoming more available. 9mm is still very hard to find for decent prices.

pre-election, I was buying 9mm ammo anywhere from $9 to $11 for a box of 100 fmj's
You're aging yourself. That price was pre-Bush election 2000! :3a:

50 cents per round for 9mm is nuts! I paid under $30 per box of 50 for Federal HST.

Still haven't found much locally for under ~$0.70/rd or so ($35/bx 50) for FMJ and ~$1/rd for JHP ($20/bx 20).

Hence, my sources are elsewhere, as opportunities arise. It does seem to be easing up little by little, but it's slow in coming. I'm betting we're going to be having ammo shortages at decent prices for at least the next year, likely longer, and it'll tighten up again when the liberty-haters come out of their coffins again in search of our 2A rights before the 2014 election season (which starts July 2013, BTW).
