DEA AD makes Today Show

Well it finally made it to National TV. This morning the video of the DEA agent that was doing a presentation to a room full of school kids back in 2004, I believe, was shown on the Today show. If you remember, the agent cleared the gun but forgot to remove the magazine. He released the slide and was attempting to reholster when the AD happened, and he shot himself in the hip. He's now sueing the DEA for allowing the video to get out to the internet. Do you think this new TV broadcast will give the anti's more to ammo?

I'm sure it will add more fuel to his fire, but I don't think it will do anything. More than anything he should be happy that some of those parents are not sueing him for endangering their kids. But I am sure he is gonna have a coronary after it making the Today Show.
Personaly i feel bad for the guy , i mean come on , it just has to be paifull to be that stupid ( not only have the nd in that manner , but to be dumb enough to go on national tv and remind everyone you did )
I think what this Today Show airing will do is give someone who's child was present the idea to also sue the gov't.....for hiring someone as moronic and dangerous as this guy.
Think about it...

If that MOE-RON didn't have the ND in that classroom, there would be no video all over the internet...

.
This will come back to bite him for ever more - and I daresay even if there had been no video, the actual event would still thru simple reportage, be haunting him too.

It is too major and inexcusable IMO - not so much just his ''accident'' but having live ammo in a classroom setting. That is the real kicker for me.

The aftermath is very likely not over yet for a long time, one way or another.
Well he just added fuel to the fire telling the kids how "special" he was. That just made him seem even stupider than he was.
Yeah, he was pretty full of himself in that video...

It would slowly fade into the ethernet if he didn't try to sue, now it is coming back to life again.
the DEA agent is apparently a complete fool. that is a fact, right? how can he sue for publicity given to a fact that was public knowledge and occured in a public building?
the arrogance of the guy was disturbing, but I am afraid it is a DEA trait.
God Bless
I think he was the only one not qualified to have a gun, I mean I didn't see anyone else shoot them selves. I remember when this vid first poped up a while back took my computer to work and showed everyone(I work with gun nuts) they thought it was hilarious.
I had not seen the footage until this AM on the Today Show.

In the interview Matt Lauer made the point below, and then asked him the following question (paraphrased and IIRC):

"You have indicated that this (incident) has been very embarrasing, so to be honest, why are you now willing to appear on the Today Show viewed by XX million viewers?"

Response:

"Well, it was in the "Top 10 Videos" last year on the internet...."

I don't understand the issue. He had an ND, it's all over the world, and yes, he's mortified. Get over it. Don't give everyone an excuse to re-hash the incident. Go figure. A golddigger of the worst sort....

Isn't that the truth. I had seen the thing a while ago and, honestly, had forgotten about it. He's the one that's brought about this new embarassment on himself. Not that it isn't well deserved, IMO.
Yeah, he (in the video) kept on telling the class that he was a "special agent" and how "professional" he was, and the "special" this and that...

With a Stooooooooooooooopid ND like that...

Maybe Special Ed...

That says it all, having live ammo in a classroom was just stupid.
Did you see the part where he let someone "verify" that the gun was empty ?

He wrongly assumed that the verifier knew what he was looking for.

That was just one of several mistakes...
When I view that footage.."Dumbass" is the only word that comes to mind.
This, with the understanding that this is not a typical DEA agent............... Just saw the interview of the above agent WITH his lawyer on the Fox News Chan. Boy oh boy was I impressed. First, the agent kept refering to the self inflicted gunshot wound as a "accidential discharge". HUH ?? Next he stated 5 or 6 times that he was a professional. He stated how he presented his gun safety to kids in a very professional manner. He couldn't really explain it well, but I think that he was trying to say that the Glock started out with a full mag but with an empty chamber. (huh?? is this the normal way that they are taught to carry their Glocks ???) He pulled the slide back to show an empty chamber. He hit the slide release chambering a rd.(well yeeaahh). He dropped the mag. He pulled the trigger. BANG ?

Then he stated how concerned he was for the welfare of the children. Yes it hurt but he wanted to make sure the children were ok.(What a hero!) He also stated that these things happen every day. Although he never specified in the DEA or where. He stated that this was a common occurance. Again he never said weather the common occurance was in the DEA or some simitrained or untrained bozo.

When I teach the firearms safety part of my class, before the class startes I download my carry weapon. I walk over and put all mags and all single rds. in my truck. I put a empty mag back in my weapon(1911). I pull the slide to lock back. I put my finger on top of the mag and run my little finger inside the chamber. I hand my weapon to a student and have them do the same thing. I have them state to me that my weapon has cold mag, cold chamber. Sometimes I actually have two students do this for a little extra training.

Hell,I understand slam fires,I understand hang fires but I don't understand what this self admitted "professional" did. --------

Hence, he's a MOE-RON...WTH was he doing with his finger on the trigger?

If you are going to "let the hammer fall", it is a deliberate motion and deliberately in a totally safe direction.

Moe-ron.

.
Weeg, 10-4 your above.
What got me was the fact that the "agent?",instead of even the slightest apologetic, came across as,"I did nothing that hasn't happened in the past and will happen in the future". Well hell, maybe so,but if we want firearms safety taught to our kids maybe we ought to consider the Eddie Eagle Program taught by the NRA or some other actually(really) professional group. Not some(IMO) arrogant, power trippin',person with a badge that seemed to have put himself on a pedestal.

Now he's sueing the DEA for "leaking" the tape that proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he's a person that was issued a weapon that he is not familiar with the manual of arms for. WOW !! GO FIGURE !! Was this child endangerment ??????? ---------
