My oldest son and I scheduled our courtesy visit to Range 82 here in Northern Virginia. It's a private, members only range but they do allow a 1 time trial visit to shoot and see if you like it prior to joining. It's a flat $300/year, shoot as much as you want.

Lee the proprietor couldn't be nicer. The range is outdoors but covered and has both paper and steel targets, the latter for pistols only. The best part is that everyone is vetted via background checks. Transition drills, forward and lateral movement, all acceptable. Follow our basic safety rules, muzzle disclipine and get a thumbs up from everyone if the range needs to go cold to switch out targets. Think the boy will get a membership and perhaps I will later as well. Until then he gets 6 or so free passes per year.
