Hardly a new subject - in fact probably been beaten to death!

I expect from choice my FAL would take point where a rifle was needed but - I was looking at my dear old MkV Jungle Carbine and remembering with some affection, just how fast the Enfield action can be cranked.

If push came to shove, I must say I'd still feel more than capable having that old rifle on hand, along with a good supply of ammo. I got some time ago some very good value mags from Natchez for Enfields and so could have those pre-loaded. 10 rounds per mag - that is fairly useful.

Winchester 180 grain soft points are wicked game rounds and I think might well hamper an aggressor!! Further plus is, the peep sight rear is excellent for fast target aquisition and is giving close to 100 yard spot on by default. Rack up the adjustable and things are good out to 500 or more.

My first army comp' shooting was Enfield (MkIV's) so - guiess I am a tad biased anyways!

Shoulda posted a pic - here is the old MkV -

Many maintain that only the Mauser action has the extreme strength but AFAIK the Enfield bolt/locking lugs are sure not gonna let go that easy!

Bolt action 5 round capacity fixed magazine rifles fought a great many wars and battles of the twentieth century. If some ignornat Polish conscript is up to the challenge, then so is anyone else determined to win.

I've often wished for a Mosin cheap bolt rifle that would chamber a "normal" catridge like .30-06 or .308. Get a 6" piece of PVC, stuff in two of those rifles, and fill the empty space up with cartridges. Seal and bury.

Honestly, what are you trying to accomplish? I can see the argument that if it was you against a SWAT team you'd be screwed, but if you just want to take care of some brigands who just broke your front door down, you're set I would think.

My buddy Joe just got back from the sandbox a couple months ago and he had this to say : "Euc, those bastards we're fighting over there will run like the cowards they are from anybody who so much as points a rifle at their general direction and pulls the trigger."

In the hands of a skilled operator, a bolt action is very lethal.

Don't let a Bolt action rife fool you they can be operated very fast, especialy the Enfields. I use a Win 70 feather weight for deer hunting and have made it sound like a semi auto.

If I ever get the chance to pick up an Enfield Jungle carbine #7 in .308 I will, especially the gussied up ones by QUEST. I never count the bolt as being out. There's a reason most snipers use them. Not rapid fire, but quick and accurate like Cooper's Scout Rifle. Heck I'd feel well armed by the COMBAT tested Enfield. Just as I feel well armed with my Garand.

That's where tactics come in, and a backup pistol.

Everybody seems to think you need an AR or AK. Consider the situations where an AR would have an advantage. There aren't that many, and most are situations you're better off avoiding... room clearing, etc.

"Firepower" is how many times you HIT the target. That's why I'm satisfied with a lever action carbine.

Why worry about it? You can get 400 rounds for $30ish dollars in spam cans designed to survive the apocalypse. Wrap those appropriately, bury with rifles.

The exoticness of the ammo is no big deal for what it costs.
