I sent my Texas chl packet on feb. 1,2006. I recieved my photo back in march to sign the back. I mailed it back the next day. It has now been 5 mos and I have watched the mail day after day and I wonder how long you can truly anticipate something and not feel disheartened. This torture has got to end. I sent an E-mail 2 weeks ago and they responded that "I will check it for you". and no change yet in the status or any follow up e-mails.:frown:

5 months is a very long time to wait for anything.
I hope that you get it soon. :yup:

You should try calling them, or stopping by, that is way to long to wait. Hopefully now that you started a thread on it, it will be in today's mail. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Shucks - that must be getting real old. Something must have gotten mixed up or lost in the system - so it has to be worth a more detailed polite check with them. Almost like it could genuinely have gotten lost in the mail.

Major sympathies - what a contrast with QK and me and other PA folks - in and out of SO inside 30 mins - done!

I tried to call today and could not get to a real person. I sent another e-mail also. I guess I need to be the squeaky wheel. I too am a state employee and am a certified firearm instructor for correctional employees. for which I train and qualify over 600 per year. I no longer anticipate the arrival of the mail, and I am sickened by the whole wait. :hand1:

tdc: Remember the promotional trinkets you could send in for as a kid? The wait was worse then, cause 8 weeks then was a more significant portion of your life. Yep - it can be slow, and frustrating, but chin up - it'll arrive. Then.....:danceban:  :danceban:

My wifes TX CHL got slowed down - new finger prints were required....so.....its tough, but hang in there! My wifes CHL runs an entire 10 months longer than mine now - so she'll be gloating when I re-apply!

Good luck! :hand10:

If you end up waiting too much longer, you might consider a request for help from your state legislator if he or she is firearms-friendly. Bureaucracies seem to pay more attention to folks who vote directly on their funding for some reason, and legislators love constituent service. :yup:

I got mine the 59th day after they confirmed they received my packed. Sent off the wife's this week.
Definitely need to rattle cages and contact everyone possible.
They are supposed to send you a response if by the 60th day your application has not been approved and they are still investigating you or waiting on the FBI check which is a possibility. I have read that in some cases it can take up to 180 days which you are approaching very quickly.

My sympathies on the wait. I would go in person to the place where I submitted the paperwork and politely talk to them.

Old Chief is right. The trip would be worth it for an answer on why nothing is being done. There must be a limit, I would think, on how long they can take for an answer.

there is a limit
if they haven't finished the background checks, etc in 60 days they are supposed to notify you that it will be taking longer.
may be having to "dig deeper" to get some answers for something, or the FBI check hasn't been completed. I know there are a lot of cases where the FBI is the bottle-neck.

I mailed my CHL packet into the Texas DPS on a Thursday and had my CHL back on the following Wednesday. I thought it was pretty good service.

Gee!

the EXACT same thing has happened to me. I put in my app in mid April and I'm still waiting. I too was sent my picture to sign the back of it. My online status has said "Processing Application" for at least 30 days now.

Call this number to talk to a live person... and let it ring, ring, ring. You will have to listen to all the menu options, but they WILL answer:

800-224-5744

it took me over 90 days to get mine due to THEIR error. Once it was discovered, they fixed it and were able to give me the date that it would mail out.
