At my age??.

Thought about it many times but hey - I am in ''twilight'' age phase so - gotta take my chances. Plus putting that sorta money to other use.

Oh and - problem - I live on a flood plain

Come on down here to San Antone. Gun friendly, very little rain, and we have a 10+ month riding season.

I think every home ought to have a "survival pantry/armory/safe room." Chris will have to build a safe tower. In MN, the worst weather threat is a tornado. But total anarchy is only 7 missed meals away.

Have any of you built a fallout shelter? I'm thinking of building one in my backyard. Lots of good info here http://www.radshelters4u.com/index3.htm

Think LONG term not emergencies over the short term, you'll go nuts. My wife and I are building based on one of the above three designs, the middle one is most attractive to us, but also the most pricey. This is our retirement. IF we make it that far. Before you start building get one of those keyring http://www.nukalert.com thinghies...I know a few doctors that are getting them.

Thanks for the links Ex, I was just thinking about digging a hole in my backyard but now I think I might do something a bit more permanent and liveable. That ultimate secure home is one of the coolest things I've seen. I might buy it.

Check with your insurance carrier, and State FEMA office. I know, here in OK, there were State sponsored subsidies for home owners wanting to put in a shelter, after our Force 5. (We have a split level, built into a hill, so I farted around, and never really check closely into it. )

Well, one of the guys in my shotgun class at Gunsite, "reclaimed" missile silos and sold them for "housing". Don't you know that would be interesting.
