I have always disliked the idea of hybrid holsters. Thought they were terribly ugly and couldn't be at all comfortable. Turns out I might have been wrong. Have been wearing my Crossbreed supertuk for a J frame for the past few days. It is a little rough after several hours against bare skin, but is incredibly comfortable with a T shirt underneath. Makes carrying my 23 oz S&W 640 a breeze, and conceals incredibly well underneath a T shirt. My only complaint is that it creaks like a saddle as I move right now. I imagine that will go away after a few more days, otherwise I will try baby powder etc. Overall excellent holster and I highly recommend them!
My first hybrid was a SuperTuck. I still have it, but the "creak" was one of my complaints about it. Once I tried a Comp-Tac MTAC (Minotaur), I haven't looked at a Crossbreed since.
From where I sit.....
The Crossbreed has that annoying "creak" sound, while the MTAC doesn't.
The Crossbreed had a certain odor to it that I didn't like. I don't know if it was the leather dye or what. The MTAC smells nice like leather should.
The Crossbreed is really wide. The MTAC is narrower for better concealability.
The Crossbreed makes the "combat cut" an option. The MTAC is made with it.
In my opinion, the kydex holster body on the MTAC is better quality than the Crossbreed.
And speaking of which, the Crossbreed holster body doesn't cover the muzzle of your gun, or at least not on the model I bought. The MTAC covers it completely.
The Crossbreed has rivet heads against your skin. The MTAC covers the rivet heads with a slim layer of leather.
So if you like the Crossbreed, I bet you'll love the MTAC.
*And no, I don't work for Comp-Tac.
