Well the day is almost over and this is my little report on my first day of ccw. As per the advise of this forum i have been to walmart and picked up a box on WWB. Found out that they will be discontinuing selling guns and ammo and the box of WWB was discounted. So i got a 50rd box of 45auto FMJ for 6.96 NOT BAD. So i picked them up and also some 357 rounds and 38 specials too. The line to get the ammo was long and they were slow so i diddnt really cash in like i wanted to. But no one even looked like they knew i was carrying. It felt nice. Then i went to the local military surplus store to get a holster for my buddy who just got his licance and that was interesting. The gun salesman is a friend of mine and he knew i was carrying by the way my arm was at my side. But he gave me some tips on how to avoid that. All in all, the day is going well, but i WILL have to get used to carrying this holster because my hip is a little tender already...

Congratulations. I'm sure you will get used to carrying and stop thinking that everyone is staring. Most don't even register you as an individual unless you maneuver around each other in a narrow store aisle, anyway. Plus, you'll develop a callus on your hip.

Rains a lot up there, right? Watch out for rust.

Sorry to hear that about Wally world. Man, good job on carrying though. It will get better. I heard the rumor but did not believe it. Well I guess I better head out to Wally World for some range ammo. The White Box started to suck anyway. I hope to get a 870 Express ordered before they stop selling.

Congrats on your first day of CCW- :hand10: You'll put together a personal system for effective concealed carry before you know it.

It just takes some experimenting. You're now going to be developing your own favorite clothing/holster wear for all types of weather/temperatures. All the best.

Great! Manage Mickey D's too!! :smilez:

I am tho slightly concerned about the ''tender hip''. Even tho this has been day #1 I have to think your rig is as yet not ideal for you. I think the only time I ever had any soreness from carrying was right early on when I used a paddle Fobus for P95 - soon changed that!

Initially the most obvious aspect IMO is the weight and bulk feel - the knowledge that something is there but it should not be much more than that. This too of course over time fades into the background, leaving just the slight awareness of the presence.

Your ''deportment'' certainly will relax and improve over the coming few weeks such that even a fellow CCW or cop etc will not know you carry.

Pity re that WM ceasing gun stuff - seems to be a spreading Wally World disease - tho ain't happened here - yet!

I'm not sure this is nation wide. I know the one in Texas they had on TV doesnt sell guns because they are going Chic, but I wonder if the ones in smaller communities wont catch hell if they quit?

There are a lot of Wal Marts that are packed to the gills a week before hunting season with people pushing carts full of ammo, cammo clothes, and other things.

I wouldnt doubt that they are thinking about it though. Some of the national gun control groups are working on the big box stores to quit selling guns and ammo to make it harder and harder for most normal folks to buy them.

They want to relegate gun owners to the status of people looking for porn, that is, having to hunt through the sleaziest part of town to get what they need.

I wouldnt care terribly though, it would give me one less reason to darken the door of the retail equivalent of the BORG, namely, Wal Mart.

I can get all the ammo I need at Dicks, our local hardware store has ammo, and there are two great gun shops. I hear also that there is a new Gander Mountain soon to open next to the closest wal mart. I KNOW they have ammo.

Up here (NE of Plano - where "that" Wal-Mart is) they're about the only good source of guns or ammo close. 'Course, ours doesn't have sushi. :puke: Do you REALLY want sushi in the middle of Texas? Is it REALLY FRESH? Made by Wal-Mart? You only get one guess...:35:

Well day one is offically in the books. I had alot of fun carrying today. It was nice to know i had 14 rounds of .45acp on my hip. I even helped my firend pick out a holster and he carried (legally) with me today. Well again thanks everyone for all your kind wishes and info!

Congrats on a sucessful 1st day. I too had to experiment with my first rig. You will end with a holster box before it is said and done. I now carry my Glock -29 in a rt hand appendix carry. This works well for me , but may not be for everybody.

congrats also for SO ohio.
as far as "tander" goes, yer hip will toughen up in about a week or so of consistent carry and you'll never even notice yer carrying as it will be part of yer wardrobe.
if yer going IWB i totally understand the tender aspect as i thought i made a huge mistake in the purchase of my first IWB holster but after some consistent wear we reached a 'mutual agreement' and its all good now. don't even notice it anymore. IWB is my main mode of carry.
(unless you look at my last thread where i will be carrying OWB for next week due to work travel issues...see concelead carry discussion "would you carry or not")

There are a couple of us here that are brand new to CCW (9 days now) congratulations. I also found that my gun made my hip (and back) hurt but I have experimented a bit more with placement.

On Wal-Mart, I have it from the store managers here that they are going to stop carrying many types of guns and ammo (they have already reduced wuite a bit).

On my first day of gun carrying, way back in 1991, I was carrying a centennial under a lightweight jacket. I went to a local Krogers to buy groceries.

About every 2 minutes, it seemed like I was checking to see if my gun was still in the holster. Along with that, I was positive everyone in the store knew I had a gun on.

Of course, it was silly, no one did.

You'll do fine. Ive been carrying near on 16 years now, no troubles.

Good work..

Well im also going to experiment with placement. I carried yesterday at 3:00 and wasnt happy because my love handle pushed my OWB into my hip. But if i carry at 4:30 like I want to then the butt of the gun prints like crazy with just a t-shirt! So i may have to try a IWB. But ill give this one some time and see how i feel in a while...

Congrats...

People in California are not even looking for CCWs, there is no expectation that it exists, even for those that are gun enthusiasts. I wouldn't sweat it and the feeling that people are looking at you will soon go away.

As for holsters... I've probably spent more on holsters than guns, and I have expensive taste in firearms. :D

Keep in mind that everyone is different (shape, style, comfort, etc). You will have to find what works with you and realize that all holsters will feel odd at first.

I search the classifieds on the biggest forums for good deals. It seems we all have the same problems in finding the right holster, so someone is always looking to sell one that didn't work out for them.

Good work on your first day!

I carry my XD9 Service IWB at the 1:30 position when I am out and about. It sits in nice and tight there and printing is a non-issue. It's easily reachable even from a sitting position inside my truck with the seatbelt on after some practice!

Gelicious,

Very glad to hear that your "first day out" was a non-event! :biggrin2:

This is as it should be. In a little while, you'll stop looking for excuses to go somewhere, just to be out "carrying." It will become just part of your routine. In this case, routine is good!
