First LEO encounter with CCW

I drive for work. Due to construction, I was taking a road I don't normally take. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the school zone until I was past the sign. LEO pulled me over, as he should have. I handed him my DL and Permit together, fanned so he could see there were 2 cards. He asked me if I was carrying and I said, "yes" and indicated the location. After running my data, he gave me a warning and sent me on my way.

In my area, I've NEVER heard of anyone getting pulled over in a school zone and NOT get a ticket. Only 2 reasons I can think of why I didn't get a ticket. God and my CCW permit. I said a prayer to thank God, and I never go anywhere without my CCW.

In Florida that ticket is double the normal fine... You got off easy...
Not sure why you were pulled over so I'm not sure about the double fine comment. In FL the 1000 ft restriction does not apply if you have a CWP. Of course, the gun does actually have to be concealed. I'm not sure about other states.
I think the double fine comment regards the 'speeding in a school zone' that the OP was pulled over for. It has nothing to do with state law or CCW. Generally, speeding infractions are controlled by local laws and ordinances.
I've not heard of double fines for this around here but, typically the courts will not budge on the ticket...not even a 'Philadelphia lawyer' can get you out of it.:spankme:
CCW, the new "Get out of Ticket" card. :hand10:

Seriously, I think having your permit, in addition to your general appearance and demeanor can sometimes be favorable when an officer makes the choise between ticket and warning.
you got easy by the grace of god
Good for you. I got out of a seat belt ticket after the officer said, " we don't give warnings on seat belts." He happened to pull me over at my favorite gun store. He never asked for my license and we never got to the ccw part. Everyone in the gun store was shocked that he let me go. Nice Officer.
IMHO....really stupid law....you drive by a school....? What idiot thought that one up....Term limits....'nuff said.

Around here some of the schools are not quite as obvious. Some are just large concrete buildings that look like every other large concrete building until you read the sign (on the building, not in the lawn or anything) that indicates it is a school. *shrug* It doesn't seem so strange to not notice it, especially if it is not your usual route.

OP: Everybody has good days and bad days. Sounds like you caught the LEO (and yourself) on a good day. Lucky :) I'd be thankful for the good days and prepared for the bad ones.
He obviously was in a good mood when he pulled you over... Let that serve a a reminder, next time you may not be as lucky

Glad to hear you had a good experience.

And I agree with Kelly2…
Lucky break. I hope either your luck holds out, or you are able to avoid the situation in the future. I try not to think of the permit as a get-out-of-jail card, but sometimes you run into LEO's that appreciate us. Thanks for posting.

Ditto to this post.
You're a lucky guy...time to go buy a lottery ticket.:yup:
In Utah, a permit allows you to carry in schools and school zones. He was most likely going a little to fast thru the zone and the LEO decided to give him a break because he was a good guy with a permit. :hand10:
