Starting about August, FL opened a number of offices in larger cities to process the licenses and this was supposed to speed the processing drastically. Well, I think it did. I feel bad for all those still waiting for theirs since doing it the old way.

My wife and I completed the application at the licensing department in Tampa last Tuesday (9/15) . We recieved the licenses today in the mail (9/21).

We were told 2-4 weeks and thus were surprised. Obvioulsy, 2-4 weeks is great compared to the several months others are having to wait.

The process was painless. Took about 20 minutes to fill out the questionaire on the computer at the licensing office, get fingerprinted and sign the paperwork. We took a money order and it is our understanding that that makes the process go faster than a check since they don't have to wait for it to clear.

Where Can I Find Out the Locations Of These Offices

My renewual form will be arriving in the next couple weeks. My schedule would allow me to drop it off at an office in Orlando, if I could find out where it was.

Sent my application 4-22-09 on about August 10th I reieved a notice to have my finger prints redone. Sent that in two days later, finally got it today. 9-23-09 only took five months and one day. It seemed like five years.
Don't give up, it will show up eventually.

I just posted a similar experience in Tampa. I used a check, but if it takes two weeks, I'll still be happy.
I went in fearing the usual government treatment, but found the office to be efficient and friendly.
As a follow up to my earlier post, I received my permit in the mail today.
I went in person to the Tampa office on Sept. 22, and received the permit today, Sept 28. That's 5 business days from application to permit in my hand.
Those folks have their act together. And best of all I was treated as a neighbor.
I'm not sure how many offices of the Dept. Of Agriculture are in Florida, but if you are close, I highly recommend going in person.

Yes. So then why are people who mail in their forms waiting for months? I'm happy I went in person, I apologize to all of you that I seemed to jump to the front of the line. Maybe the pile of mail is so big, they are happy to see a real human come through the door.
