Too often when I post stories of famous lawman and their adventures, I overlook the unsung but contributing females. So while I was in the US Marshal's Eastern District office( yes, Rayland Givens TV district), I saw this on the wall and thought it interesting. The gal was quite the story in the Chicago area in 1939, and was one of the best pistol shots around. She got the job done, and gained the respect of men on both sides of the law.
Meet Dorthy Rose, a deputy US Marshal at the age of 21.

Sorry about the sideways pic. Happens everytime I try to do something on this phone.

Amazing never knew the U.S. Marshall Service had women that long ago. No sweat I just turned the monitor sideways.

U.S. Marshals Service,  History of Northern  District of Illinois

Deputy U.S. Marshal - Dorothy Rose
Northern District of Illinois
(CA. 1929)

In the same year that the stock market crash began the Great depression, Rose became the youngest Deputy U.S. Marshal in the United States. At only 21, she was a crack pistol shot. her duties included escorting female prisoners to court, jail and the penitentiary.

Too bad the Bonnie Parker's of the world got the notoriety of the press and Hollywood, instead of the women who should have gotten it.

Good idea, much easier than turning my desk over.
