With all the attention focused on the shootings in Denver and Newtown, I haven't heard or read anything on the Fort Hood shooter for a long time. Has anyone? It is hard to find anything recent on this. It happened in 2009 and it seems that by now there would have been a lot of disclosure on this guy's motives and methods. Yet only recently has there been anything and that was only on his trial. Wikipedia is the only comprehensive source I've found on this but, well, it's Wikipedia... According to them he went out of his way to obtain high capacity magazines and was carrying a large number of them. So why didn't this high capacity magazine issue come up then? And what about him? From what I've read, he was perfectly sane and motivated by some radical Muslim jihad philosophy.

What gives? Anyone care to speculate as to why Obama and Biden aren't showboating this also? If what I'm reading is true, this would be the best argument in favor of limiting high capacity magazines.

Dead children make much better copy, if you're trying to tear down the Constitution.

Just one more psychotic, self-proclaimed "jihadist" doesn't quite compare, even if the numbers are comparable.

The Ft Hood shooting was just a case of workplace violence.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Oh, the slimebag is still collecting his pay, getting medical treatment, doesn't have to shave his beard....where's the bloody firing squad when you need it?

It's tied up in the military court system, they've spent close to a year and a half bickering about his beard. It is pretty sad how many people don't have the slightest clue as to what really happened, many think that he used military weapons. In reality, he used a FiveseveN that he bought privately and although it is technically "workplace violence" he was a known follower of a now vaporized extremist cleric.

This is not the homegrown terrorist you are looking for...

They didn't want any more publicity for that case. A muslim extremist killing soldiers is not news to them. They don't want the public knowing that our soldiers are unarmed here at home. That would further display how much the government distrusts its own soldiers, never mind how scared of citizens with guns they are.

I've had to correct several newspaper columnists who talked about it happening on a military base where everyone carries weapons and they couldn't stop him. In reality, they don't carry weapons around on base unless they are in live-fire areas such as the range. Otherwise, they are locked in the armory. He was in a sterile area for medical clearance. The only armed people there were MPs. He didn't even have access to his military weapons. He bought the gun he used at a gun store. I always point out to those columnists that he did not choose to engage soldiers on the base range, he chose a place on base that he knew they would be unarmed.

Something I forgot to say before but want to add, it really annoys me also how the MSM tried to portray the female police officer as some kind of a 'heroine that saved the day'. In actuality, she got off no shots, got taken down by him quickly, he then walked right up to her like he was going to execute her then kicked her weapon away and moved on. Shortly thereafter, the male officer arrived and shot him roughly 5 times which paralyzed him and ended the fight. Of course, the MSM love the headline grabbers like the 'little white lady that stopped the mad man', the real hero officer looks like a prototypical cop out of central casting.

As to the weapon used, it was a FiveSeven that he bought at a LGS in Kileen, he got 20 and 30 round mags and a green laser. He also had a .357 revolver but that wasn't used. He fired roughly 250 rounds and had another 150 or so on him when he was stopped, it said that he had basically stuffed his uniform pockets with as much ammo as he could. I'm pretty sure that he didn't plan on surviving the attack.

Thanks for the information MJB. My wife thought the same as the reporters. I had to show her there are no weapons outside an armory on bases except on the range and ammunition is controlled. The rub I have is the work place violence. This was a terrorist attack plain and simple. The entire chain of command knew about this guy and feared the administration for labeling him a risk because of his religion.

How history writes this will be interesting.

Hard for me to discuss this and keep my emotions out of it so I will quit here.

That was a story on Duffel Blog, which is the military counterpart to the Onion (satirical newspaper), he is however still getting full pay as a Major in the US Army...

Here is a recent story:

DEFENSE DEPT.: WE CAN’T GIVE FT. HOOD VICTIMS PURPLE HEARTS BECAUSE ACCUSED SHOOTER WOULDN’T GET A ‘FAIR TRIAL’
Mar. 30, 2013 12:47pm Madeleine Morgenstern

The Department of Defense strongly opposes legislation to award injured survivors of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting the Purple Heart because it would harm the trial of accused gunman Maj. Nidal Hasan, Fox News reported.
