I don't have a link to it. Basically she is telling the LIE that NO background checks are done at ANY gun shows or ONLINE gun sales.

Obama said that the NRA lied about the amendments that got shot down.

Now Gabbi and Rachel Maddow (MSNBC) are telling the same lies about online gun sales and gun show checks.

The 'facts' they are telling regarding online gun sales IS A LIE, and we all know it. And the OMISSION on gun shows about no checks when it is a private sale ONLY (non FFL dealer). Omission is still a lie.

I am sorry for her being a victim and having to deal with her impairments. But that will never change the fact that I don't agree with her viewpoints, politics, or those of her lucky husband who enjoyed the ride of his life - at the hands of taxpayers. He should shut up on the national stage because he was not elected - yet he grabs the government media microphone as if he was.
Regardless, adding new layers of restrictions on law abiding citizens would do nothing - past, present & future - to stop a crazy from getting a gun - one way or another - and causing the mayhem their sick mind is compelling them to do.

I would almost bet that husband Mark is keeping his face out there to get some $$$$$ from Bloomberg and run for Congress soon.

She was politically impared before the tragic shooting by a madman...it has done nothing to improve her thought process. Her husband is the typical liberal Navy officer (remember Carter, Kerry and McCain)

Here's the deconstruction of the Op-Ed by Taranto, who does a nice job:

Best of the Web Today: Gabby Giffords Poisons the Well - WSJ.com

That's a harsh but justified appraisal of her op-ed in today's New York Times, titled "A Senate in the Gun Lobby's Grip." It's a reaction to yesterday's failure of President Obama's gun-control proposals in the Democratic Senate. Giffords's 900-word jeremiad should be included in every textbook of logic and political rhetoric, so rife is it with examples of fallacious reasoning and demagogic appeals.

Op-Ed by Gabrielle Giffords, 4/17/2013 @ NY Times: A Senate in the Gun Lobby’s Grip.

SENATORS say they fear the N.R.A. and the gun lobby. But I think that fear must be nothing compared to the fear the first graders in Sandy Hook Elementary School felt as their lives ended in a hail of bullets. The fear that those children who survived the massacre must feel every time they remember their teachers stacking them into closets and bathrooms, whispering that they loved them, so that love would be the last thing the students heard if the gunman found them. <snip>

What we need is a counterpoint op-ed piece, such as: A Nation in the Socialist-Autocrats' Grip.

I will give her a pass. We can strongly disagree with her and her husband's opinion, and respond on the merits, but nothing good will come from questioning their integrity or intelligence.

I would not wish what they have had to endure on anyone.

That's strange. I've bought a couple guns at gun shows and online from members here and gunbroker in which I was required to go through an FFL and a NICS check before I could purchase. I must have done it wrong.

They twist the truth to suit their agenda.....

Gun show transactions:
There are two types of sellers at gun shows
1. Those that hold a FFL -- They are mandated to do background checks
2. Those that do not hold a FFL but are a resident of the state of gun show -- They can sell(in most states) to anyone that lives in that state without a background check

Internet transactions:
There are two types of internet sellers
1. All firearm transactions from gun stores/internet stores that sell weapons are mandated to have the transaction go through a FFL holder in the purchasers state and weapon is shipped to FFL holder who is mandated to do a background check
2. Sellers onn ArmsList, Craig's List, etc., They can sell(in most states) to anyone that lives in the state they are selling it from without a background check

The problem here is the constant problem in liberal vs conservative arguments: liberals argue feelings and emotions while conservatives argue facts. Sure, the administration labels everything as a fact, but they do this to invalidate conservative principals - when there are so many 'false facts' floating around, it's a lot easier to cast doubt when a Cruz or Cornyn offers substantive evidence of 2A infringement.

All "disciples" of Obama are expected to play fast and loose with the facts. Not just on gun control issues, but anything that conflicts with their socialist agenda.

this is just the latest and not the last issue where the facts will be twisted or ignored in order to promote their side of the argument.

Yes, that is the current situation for Federal law. So Giffords is wrong in claiming that no background checks are done for sales at gun shows or for private exchanges. It is correct though that both methods can now provide for the legal of sale guns without a background check of the purchaser. I would personally like to see some correction of that.

I can forgive them both, both suffer from abnormal brain syndrome, one was shot in the head, the other's a democrat.
Actually the other one is a hard core socialist who was radicalized in the American education system.
