I am working on accumulating Glocks a little bit at a time to be a part of a plan for shtf. I am trying decide whether to go gen 3 or gen 4. Feel free to weigh in with your experiences, observations, etc. Thank you.

Ya, I say get one of each. I've got a 3rd and 4th gen as of now. Next I'd like to have a 2nd gen G22 or G17.

As long as it proves reliable, I don't think you can go wrong.

I love my Gen3 Just keep going for them. Love working on em, love shooting em. Dont know about the Gen4 yet. I heard of some ejection issues with the Gen4 9/40 cals. I think they have it worked out now, but you know. Dont like the guide rod either. but dont take my word I havent given them a chance.

If I were to buy a new Glock, Gen 4 all the way.

2 month old thread... but whatever, I like the Gen 3s better than the 4s. Someone else up there said it too that there have been some recoil spring problems with the Gen 4s in the past... I just subscribe to the whole "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra...

I have a gen4 G23 and G27. For me (odd as it may sound), I like the mag release on the gen4s a bit better. The adjustable backstraps are nice, but not a deal-maker or -breaker for me.

The spring issue was addressed and (at least for my G23 - manufactured 5/13), there have been no issues. It's been great so far.

For SHTF right now I'd recommend Gen 3. There are so many of those guns on the streets that it is almost silly. If something should break you'd likely have an easier time finding a replacement for the Gen 3 guns (on parts that don't interchange). In a few years that will change, but for the time being I'd go with Gen 3 if SHTF is your major concern.

This year I bought another new Glock 19, 9mm. I could have bought either the Gen 3, or 4. I went with the Gen 3.

There were a number of reasons why, but the Gen 4s seem to have some bugs in them. I have been VERY happy with my Gen 3s. Btw, Mine are not just for looks, or shooting a box of shells out of every now and then. I took them thru Tactical Response courses. They hold up for more rounds in two days than most put thru their pistols in a life time.

I'd have to go with the G23 Gen 3.

And remember: Two is one, and One is none.

And if you're considering more than one Glock, I'd recommend staying with the same caliber for a shtf scenario.
