I am going to a conference in ky I know that my pa permit is good in ky but I have to go through oh to get there since I am coming from eastern pa. What do I have to know to get through OH. I know that my permit in pa is no good in OHIO. So what do I need to know to bring my weapon through OHIO. What are the ccw laws that I may need to know traveling through that state.

If you go through West Virginia your permit is good all the way.

In Ohio, without a recognized permit, your gun must be unloaded and in a closed package, box, or case; OR in a compartment that can be reached only by leaving the vehicle; OR in plain sight and secured in a rack or holder made for the purpose.

Additionally, you cannot have any magazine that has rounds in it anywhere in that vehicle that fits in any gun also in the vehicle. There is no specified storage requirement for the ammo, other than it cannot be in the gun or in any magazines that fit the gun.

1. If you follow FOPA, you will be good. If you're traveling with your guns IAW FOPA, you shouldn't have problems anywhere, including Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.

2. Make sure that your magazines and speedloaders are unloaded.

3. You can open carry in any non-prohibited location. You cannot open carry in a vehicle without an Ohio CHL or valid equivalent.

It's too bad that FOPA does not define "unloaded" as well...
