Delegate Cole's restaurant ban repeal, HB 2424, passed out of subcommittee 3 to 1! One representative of the restaurant association said that permit
holders had shot people in bars recently and then listed two cases - one
where an illegal alien killed a police officer in Tidewater and another
where a drunken DEA agent got into shoot-out - which had NOTHING to do with permit holders! Fortunately, the committee saw right through that argument. The subcommittee asked tough questions and the other side came up wanting.

Delegate Athey's "Second Amendment restoration bill," HB 2327, which allows
concealed carry without permits, passed out of subcommittee 3 to 1!

Delegate Wright's bill that requires a sheriff or chief of police or
Commonwealth Attorney to submit a reason why a permit holder is to be denied a permit, HB 2928, passed out of subcommittee unanimously. The bill was modified to fix some concerns that caused the Senate Courts of Justice
committee to kill the matching bill this morning that Senator Cuccinelli was
carrying. Hopefully this bill will now pass the Senate if it gets over there.

Delegate Cline's HB 2935, which would get rid of the Capitol Gun Ban, was
passed out of subcommittee 3 to 1!

Delegate Abbitt's HB 2195, which would simplify paperwork for permit holders
when purchasing a gun, was rolled into HB 2913, Delegate McDonnell's bill
that also simplifies paper work. The full committee will consider final
disposition of this bill, as the subcommittee lost its quorum when this, the
last bill to be considered, came up.

Good I hope it passes, there is also a bill up that will make Virginia like Vermont, where you don't need a permit to carry, but unlike Vermont you can still get one and be able to carry in those states that allow Virginia permits. Sorry I don't have a link to any proof of that bill.

I would rather see the resturant ban bill go through though.

Edit, right, shoulda read the second paragraph, which talks about it.

Now I'm confused. I thought I just saw over on Packing.org that all of these bills had "died". Hope you are right and I misread over on packing!

Tactician, do you have updated info. The state bill tracking system reflects the following statuses.

HB 2424 'Restaurant Ban Repeal' is in committee. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=051&typ=bil&val=HB2424

HB 2327 'Alaska Carry' is dead. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=051&typ=bil&val=hb2327

HB 2928 is out of committee. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=051&typ=bil&val=hb2928

HB 2935 still in committee. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=051&typ=bil&val=hb2935

HB2931 is out of committee. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=051&typ=bil&val=hb2931

There are currently 50 bills affecting firearms ownership and concealed carry in Virginia. This is the short session year so they only have 60 days. It is also an election year for all the delegates in the house. :flyaway:

What about carrying a BUG? I live in VA also (Tidewater) and my permit says "to carry A concealed handgund"
I belive there is no law in VA stopping you from carrying a BUG, but you might want to do a little more digging and double check that.

Updated Info

HB 2424 The restaraunt ban repeal is dead.

HB2928 Passed awaiting the Govenor. This one changes the permit system so a Sheriff or other CLEO can't just say you can't have a permit. They have to swear to it in court and testify to facts as to why you cannot have a permit.

HB 2935 To repeal the rule prohibiting openly carried firearms in Capital Square, is dead.

HB2931 Eliminates the State Police form that is nearly identical to the BATF form. Replaces it with a concent to background check form. Awaiting a vote in the Senate.

HB2282 Shooting ranges cannot be denied a permit or closed due to noise. Reported out of committee awaiting a Senate vote.

The repeal of the gun of the month club also failed.

These and others can be checked here:

Zach ask your local Commonwealth's Attorney on carrying multiple guns. Mine says it is ok. They CAs are the ones who will refer charges against you if it is against the law. They make the call.
