Well I am now the proud owner of a Colt Combat Commander XSE 04012XSE. I picked it up today.

Here's my report as of my first real time spent alone with it.

the grip saftey has got to go, one being the duck but type saftey it "catches" the webbing on my hand between thumb and index finger making sweeping the thumbsaftey difficult. 2nd as you can see in the pics the grip saftey has 4 small holes in it from incocistincy in the mim process

The roll marksare very, very lightly imprinted into the slide, and the top most part of it is very light.

You can see in the pics that the feed ramp has 3 "marks" in it (you can feel them with your fingernail)

I haven't shot it yet, but the lock up and fit of the moving parts is supurb

Congratulations, Bruce! A new grip safety and polish job on the ramp should get you going....
Gotta wonder why all manufacturers can't put out a product with a polished feedramp and throat....surely that 1 little step can't be the difference between making a profit or not

When are you going to the range?
If not this afternoon, defently tomm.
I have often thought about how we (people who like Colt's) will buy one knowing that it will need some work to smooth out something and/or replace some parts. But, I keep doing it. My latest was a Defender. Front of the slide was so sharp that it scraped leather shavings in big sheets out of my holster. Same lousy duckbill safety... so, after an hour stoning off all the sharp edges and more money for parts -- I've got a new carry gun.
Yet - I've already got another Colt 1911 on my wish list.
Something about the little horse on the side, I guess.
Glad you have it in your sticky hands Bruce but - sorry to hear it has flaws etc. That to me shows bad QC in part and frankly - just me - I'd not be over impressed. Gives me that feeling a manufacturer is just ''churning out guns''!

I am tho a fussy ol' bugger

I know what ya mean, I was just dead set on getting a Colt this time around, my next will defently be a Springer Loaded Champion.

I'm not saying that I am not happy with it, I am VERY happy with it. Its what I wanted and what I was saving for, and i can't wait to shoot it.
Well - with my little rant over (LOL) - I do sincerely wish you a lot of pleasure with the shooting.

If aesthetics ignored, and I must say on other than a new gun small flaws if cosmetic really don't phase me much - then mechanics are everything. Go enjoy dude and - as I know you will - post back on what I hope is a big-grin session
Good News On Your Feed Ramp

I don't think the bullet nose of the top cartridge contacts the frame feed ramp that far down.
You can probably just ignore those lower marks/lines on the frame ramp & just lightly polish the smaller/lighter top one.
Ok, I've been plauing with iti for the last 2 hours and I still LOVE it. I think the trigger has lost about 1/2 lb I've dry fired it so many times. It defently needs the edges broke a little they are really sharp.
Man I can't wait to shoot it.

Congratulations, Bruce. Nothing, I mean nothing, is a good at getting the juices flowing as a new gun. Enjoy!
Warning OG - those ''juices'' can play merry hell with a non stainless gun!
 ---- This is what I looked liek for the last 2 hours.
After work today I got a chance to shoot the new girl, and all I can say is WOW I have never shot a gun that put such a smile on my face  .

I went through 400 Win WB and 50 230gr Federal JHP and she didn't miss a beat  . This Colt is like a extension of my hand when I shoot it, I don't have any pics of my targets (cause I was shooting at the win WB box), but at 12yrds it will hold a 1" group taking your time, and I can keep "controled pairs" on the seperators that are inside the WWB  I tried some point shooting at 5yrds and had no problem hitting the tree (about 15" in diameter) all 8 shots. I find it more controlable than my full size model and also it has less "felt" recoil. I still can't stop grinning   even as I write this

I must say that this Colt is worth every penny I spent on it, and i am sooooo glad I held out and waited to gather the $$ to buy it, rather than the SA Loaded Champion..

I only have 1 regret, and that is I shot all my ammo today and have none left for tomorrow :frown: . I think maybe some slimmer grips will be in order as the stock ones are kinda bulky for my hands, also I would like to have the front strap checkered.

Next time out I will get some pics of a real target. I tell ya I feel like a little kid at christmass, I can't get enough of my new "toy" :1augen71:

So Bruce - were I to hazard a guess - I may just be thinking that you are a tad pleased

Glad to hear it! That is how any gun's first outing should behave and return satisfaction.

Hmmm - yes, that was quite a bit of ammo
Hey Bruce - even your ''friend'' looks more pleased than usual LOL!
