Our self-defense bill, HB693, is back on track. The decision by the Senate Judiciary Committee to table the bill was overridden by the full Senate, helped by pressure from the NRA (Yes, that NRA). I don't know why the NRA suddenly decided to support the bill, but I'm glad they did.

I posted previously on the NRA's original refusal to support this bill. If any forum members wrote or called the NRA to protest, I thank you.

Read about this on-going soap opera here:http://www.mtssa.org/legisupdates.phtml?legupdate_id=96

Stay tuned.

I wonder what the NRA didn't like on the first go around?

Good question. Apparently they had a problem with the language contained in the "brandishing a firearm" section.

I'll keep you posted.

Up-Date, The Final Word

Well, our self-defense bill is officially dead, voted down in the State Senate today, 23 to 26. Some of the Democrats that promised to support it reneged. I have to wonder how the bill might have fared if the NRA had supported it from the beginning, but that's only speculation now.

Read the obituary here:http://www.mtssa.org/legisupdates.phtml?legupdate_id=97. Some of the arguments against the bill would be funny, if these morons weren't serious. This is what happens when ignorant voters return the State Legislature to Democratic control for the first time in 10 years. And Montana is red state! Don't get me started on the number of tax bills these retards have introduced this session!

Rant over.

I noticed that Florida just passed a self-defense law very similar to our failed bill. Lucky Floridians!
