Well I had a nice surprise today. I had a call from my LGS that my M&P9c had come in. I was actually at the store earlier but didn't ask because I never would have imagined it would be there. They told me it would be 4-6 before it came in and it was only about a week. So I went back to the store and got my gun. And they also had ammo, so I actually have something to put through it.

I did notice the trigger is gritty, which I didn't notice in the one I who at the range, like several people have said. But a good thing I could notice is it has a clear reset, something I didn't notice in the test gun. So once I got a feel for the trigger I field stripped it, without the tool or pulling the trigger. The guy at the gun shop showed me just using his fingernail on his pinky. So I will have to let my nail out a bit to make it easier. Then I switched the mag release, since I am a lefty. I hope to get out next week to shoot. I can't wait.

Now I am just waiting on my holsters so I can actually carry the gun. I ordered them when I decided on what gun to get. I didn't imagine I would be waiting on the holster. I always thought I would be waiting on the gun to put in the holster.

BTW, For those of you who shoot a M&P9c what is you favorite SD ammo? I picked up some 115g Gold Dots. I think I will pick up a few others to see if I like one better than the other. I just want to know if anyone has had any problems with any ammo.

Congrats on getting your carry gun quicker than expected! Although I don't own a Shield I would like to make an ammo suggestion(s). I really like the Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P carried by NYPD and available for citizens to carry (if you can find it!). Remington also makes a 124 grain +P Golden Saber load that works extremely well, which would give you an alternative to the Speer. I have also had success with Corbon's 115 grain +P 9mm load and like it alot. The Corbon 9mm's always seem to shoot the best for me and expand VERY well due to the velocity and bullet construction.

I recently bought an M&P9c as well.

I was looking for a simplistic, compact, and reliable carry gun in a striker fire configuration...and the M&P was my choice over a few others. The gun ate 150 rounds at the range with zero malfunctions, so I was happy to know that it was reliable out of the box...but I noticed erratic ejection of the brass.

Brass was being ejected into my face, bouncing off my forehead, ejecting straight up, to the left, to the right, in my face again...on and on and on. This is not normal...but the main thing is that it never malfunctioned.

Being OCD when it comes to my firearms, I sent it back to S&W for them to do their thing. I should be getting it back sometime early to mid week coming up.

I have no regrets getting this gun...AT ALL!! I'm actually looking forward to getting it back so I can get back to the range and get some more ammo thru it before I start carrying it; besides...I recently received my Theis hybrid IWB holster and I'm all set. As a side note...my Shield fits in that holster as well. It isn't as tight as the 9c will be, but it isn't loose by any means at all.

OP...im bringing this up just to make the suggestion to watch how your brass ejects. I think it's more important that the gun functions without failure to feed or extract...but when you have hot brass falling down behind your glasses and sizzling against your face...like I did...then there is the possibility that an issue exists and it may need to be addressed.

Good luck and have fun with your new gun.

Congratulations! My EDC is the 9c most of the time. I've tried a few different, mostly 115g and 124g Gold Dot and 124g Remington Golden Saber. I've never had an gun malfunction using any of these, if this helps.

Congrats on a great pistol! That's a pleasant surprise, having it come in early!

Guess I'm one of the heavy bullet guys. My carry ammo of choice is 147 gr Ranger 'T'. I have some in both bonded and 'regular' style. Just found a few boxes of 147 gr HST as well. I doubt anyone could tell the difference between these two rounds on either end of the trajectory! :hand5:

I've put several hundred rounds through my 9C so far; FMJ, TMJ, & JHP in weights from 115 to 147. Never had a hiccup with a single round. I have never tried steel-case or unjacketed ammo, and have no plans to, if I can help it.

Enjoy the new gun!

Here are a couple of photos for you picture folks. Thanks for the advice on the trigger, eject problem and ammo choices. I have heard good things on all the ammo recommended and plan on trying out a few as I can find them. Hopefully I can get to the range on Tues. I'll update how things go once I put some rounds through it.

Congrats on the purchase. The trigger will smooth up a bit with use. But Apex tactical makes kits to make the trigger even better. But mine for its purpose is fine the way it is. Its a defense gun not a target bullseye shooter. Right now Im carrying 115 grain hornady critical defense rounds in my 9c but I plan on trying some other loads this spring. Im hoping 124 grain golden sabres work well as they do in my xdsc also. Enjoy your new gun.
