I often see posts on this forum in which the OP seeks facts to support an argument. More guns, less crime. Guns save people. AR style rifles account for a disproportionately small number of murders. And so on.

The sooner you all realize the debate is not about "facts" the better.

This has to do with making people more dependent on Government. And this "dependency move" is not some nefarious conspiracy; the view is one that Government can provide for people. You've seen that with the Affordable Care Act, the concerted effort to increase the number of foodstamps recipients, etc.

Guns empower law abiding citizens, which, in turn, decreases the dependency on the Government for protection. But, if you are a believer in the Government as the provider, you will see that Government can do a better job of protecting people. And the first step is protecting people from themselves by limiting their access to dangerous guns.

So if you want to arm yourself with facts, and convince yourself that reason will prevail, go right ahead. Be the sucker. In the end you will be the most persuasive unarmed person in the room.

I've also seen the first signs of capitulation. "If anything comes out of the Senate, it won't get past the house." So those that are taking comfort in this conventional wisdom are already prepared to lose the battle in the Senate. "It's a strategic move." "It will force skittish democrats to take a stand." Etc. How quickly we forget about the Blue Dogs and Bart Stupak during Obamacare fiasco.

The only viable response in this debate is to NOT GIVE ONE INCH. Unfortunately the Senate Republicans already seem to be willing to do so, and so many in the 2A community appear to be willing to believe this is all part of some grand political strategy.

My point is this: In this fight, you cannot afford to GIVE ONE INCH. If you give, you've lost. And if you can't see that, you deserve to be disarmed.
